Question- shutting down the supply chain also shuts down trafficking, cartels and mafia…yes?

This dude gonna get a visit and soften his stance or his truck gonna evaporate with him in it.

You would think Buffet, who controls so much of the rail, would be all onboard for more US manufacturing. He may be, but he has a tremendous amount of influence and it would help line his immense pockets

We are still a few years away from autonomous trucks,

This is a non-starter. It's a legit national security threat. At the ports, if automated, you can surge Merchant Marines and Navy personnel to keep things going. If autonomous trucks are "hacked", shut down, whatever, that's a disaster that we can't deal with, not to mention the safety, security, and national defense issues that would result.

I am not pro-union, but he will win this one. Biden is weak and he will cave to the unions. The USA buys WAY TOO much material from overseas, that is the real problem!

AMERICA FIRST will solve this crap, and now.

Biden definitely won't win this one. And they are probably to hard right now to get it in cause they think Trump is winning. This can definitely be the push to prove the America Firsters right, and show the Dems how they can't play both sides with their unions vs globalization BS.

Another secret weapon is that the union folks themselves and families will feel the issues with shortages and higher prices.

Unions can't keep wanting more increasing prices and having the Dems blame the businesses for "mUh price gauging". Trump needs to hammer this Harris campaign agenda home.

Democrats bitching about Trumps tariffs being a tax on consumers. Well, when Joe caves to,these folks and the handling cost goes up is that not a tax on every damn thing coming into these ports whether there is a tariff on it or not?

This is a good point.

They want to be compensated for working during Covid?

I was unaware they had been unpaid volunteers that whole time. They definitely should be paid for their hours worked.

Ohhhh that’s not what he meant at all was it? He wants to add an extra helping of extortion on top of their already lucrative pay and benefits package.

Am I the only one who remembers the cargo ships sitting out off the coasts during Covid? Nobody to unload them.

Not at all.

I work in this industry. At it's height, there was 110 vessels waiting to be unloaded. Containers into Kansas City and Chicago cost $27,000 when they historically averaged $5,500. It was a nightmare I hope we never go back to.

West Coast re-negotiated and is locked in until 2029 I believe. Their timing was a little better as they were negotiating right on the back of the 2021-2022 Supply Chain crisis. Daggett knows that and is trying his damndest to get as much as a he can with a market that is far different and more soft than when the ILWU negotiated.

Most China/Asia imports do come through the west coast, if they are going to a west coast location or a land locked location, but there is still plenty of Asia cargo moving via the EC and nearly all India/EU cargo is routed via the USEC.

I hope it lasts for a month and a week. I want to see Democrats and the media dance around this with the election looming. Will it be painful? Yes, but pain is going to be the theme of the next 4 years regardless. What results from the short term pain is the most important.

What a pussy. I worked every day during covid at a refinery in Louisiana. Never got a increase in pay. Only had to carry around some BS useless essential worker card that got washed in the washing machine a week later. Let them walk. Unions frigging suck. It's nothing more than a racket and a money laundering operation.

Americans workers demand raises

The last offer to the unions was a 50% pay increase, double the amount placed into their retirements, better healthcare and leaving the current wording against automation as it is.

They said no.

Kind of hard to be sympathetic for the union guys here.

I think I’m going to Cosco tomorrow and stock up on some provisions. If we get a month long strike it could get a little testy.
