When I was 14 years old, I was a member of a “Youth for Goldwater” group attending a Goldwater campaign stop. I read up on current events and history, so I wasn’t just following the lead of adults. I was conservative. I supported Republican candidates all through college and voted for Richard Nixon. After the Nixon corruption I became less enamored with the GOP. I began to resent the so-called “southern strategy” of using race as a cudgel in their campaigns. I also supported efforts to curb pollution of the environment. The point is, I drifted very slightly to center- left as I reached my 20’’s. The point is that I started outconservative and became less doctrinaire as I saw more of the world…

And that statement is exactly why boomers are hated so much. You guys are so out of touch with reality and think that the world you grew up in is still relevant when it isn’t.
Simply saving money and working hard isn’t going to cut it with today’s COL standards and inflation rate. Boomers grew up in a time when inflation was very low and housing prices were very affordable almost every state. A simple high school diploma and trade degree could get you all of that back then, but now it won’t.

I used to be neighbors with a guy who retired from the Pontiac divsion. He had full board healthcare coverage for life - he and his wife had coverage from GM from the time he retired at 55 till he died at 90. That's a bit ridiculous. Imagine building that into the cost of a car.

You are posting to a group of Fox News boomers who actually believe that the Republican Party stands for truth. This, in spite of many years of broken promises to their constituents.
I have never been, or will never be a Democrat. I think the party is evil. That being said, I realized a few years ago that the Republican Party is trash. I am an independent and always vote for fiscal restraint and non intervention.
I have warned for some time that we are killing the hopes and dreams of younger voters. The Republican Party deserves what they will witness in the midterms: a large number of traditional right leaning independents staying home.
I am a boomer, but I can see the anger of the younger generation of voters.

When you say the young don’t have an easy go of it because houses and cars cost more that doesn’t account for the fact that salaries are inflated more than big ticket items…..
When I started a minimum wage job the minimum wage was $1.35 compare that to today$7.25. My first professional job after college I started at $18,000 a year because I had a specialized high demand technical degree and some experience. Most college grads got less. Compare that to today where kids start out at more than $100k a year.
Kids today expect to be affluent, expect to get door dash or eat out every day, expect Starbucks everyday.

Some of you "conservatives" probably have a confession to make. That you were actually a democrat when you were young and at some point had a political and intellectual awakening to realize they were selling bull shite. I've been called a lot of names in this thread - but I'm as conservative as it gets now, I just had a journey to go on.

I was co-founder of a College Republicans chapter at my college in 1984 when I was 19 years old. I’ve never voted for a Democrat in my life.
