I Believe Iran Will Continue to Play the Long Game as We Endure Diesel Price Hikes

U.S. retail diesel was about $3.70 - $3.80 a gallon just before the Iran War began in February. It is as higher now as $6.50, a rise of $2.70 or about 75%.
If diesel stays this high, the U.S. economy will, without a doubt, see a lasting tax on freight, farming and construction that keeps inflation elevated, raises the cost of almost everything and lowers growth and real wages over time.
Iran knows this and will continue to hold out. My question is, why did Hegseth refuse to acknowledge this when it was foreseeable? If anything it has put Trump in a precarious position with no exit ramp.

The Iran war could end tomorrow, and diesel prices still might not fall significantly. Diesel prices are influenced by a much broader set of factors, including disruptions to Russian refining capacity from Ukrainian attacks.
Don’t get me wrong—fuel prices are too high. But blaming today’s diesel prices solely on Iran misses a major part of the picture. Continued Western support for the Russia-Ukraine war, and the resulting disruptions to Russian energy infrastructure, also affect global fuel markets and diesel prices.

Iran has zero reason to make a 'deal'. They don't care about their citizens and the citizens are not going to overthrow the regime.

That’s a sign of someone of deep conviction who believes what he’s doing is the right thing not someone who will pull a gimmick place to make people temporarily happy.
Many have been wanting a leader who plays the long game.

I think the philosophy of the Trump Administration is Iran is hoping the pressure of midterms with current gas, diesel and oil price might cause the White House to cave to a not so good resolution before the midterms to get some prices down to help Republicans.
And the Administration may be right about that, so in their mind, if they keep firm and midterms happen without us caving, then Iran might realize their strategy was wrong and suddenly need to make a deal themselves to prevent a real uprising in the country. I hope we’re correct on this one.

The simple explanation for why regardless of whether the current parties in power support expansion of refineries or not, the Democrats have made it abundantly clear that they will pass legislation that will punish energy producers when they are inevitably back in power and they can stonewall things by flipping a single house of Congress.
The oil majors have to commit billions of dollars and decades of investment in resources to build these new refineries and that type of commitment obviously is not possible with the knowledge that a single election can change the circumstances of such long term investments.
There has to be long term government stability and incentives for anyone to take the risk and commit the resources for such substantial investments and long time horizons.

Ah, but they do. Iranian leadership is mostly outside of the country, right now. The money they plan to live on is being frozen, bit by bit, and when they have no money, they will make a deal.
They are hypocrites of the highest order. They have wives that shop in Paris and they live the high life. They don't want to live in poverty.
