Where their assets are? You mean like floor plans? I can see that. But it's going to be pretty public where they bill a giant data center.

Many years ago I had a friend who was in commercial real estate. They were building a highway to a lake area and one of the oil companies contracted him to go buy land on places where the interstate would cross county roads and there were exits.
He ran into the same beetch about 20 times who owned the land at these cross overs. She didnt own large plots just 5 or 10 acres where each exit would be.
He did some digging, she has a high priced call girl and one of her clients, repeatedly, over a three year period, was a fella who worked in development for the department of transportation and loved to discuss his work.....she retired from the call girl gig

I worked in the private sector but was deeply involved in the early planning stages for these types of projects .... meetings which frequently involved the public sector planners, .... usually through the local or state economic development agencies, occasionally the governor.
The lead time for site location, prep, and critical infrastructure (power, big fiber, water) is literally 3-4 years minimum, unless the local EDC already has a development zone that has all that. Securing RoW is also a major challenge and lead time.
It was not uncommon for me to work directly with these economic development commissions to pre-develop sites well prior to securing a customer ... and always within the "contractual cone of silence" (NDAs)
For example, the largest economic zone site in Georgia is located near Dublin, Georgia (east of Macon). They have already developed the site to accommodate a major automobile manufacturer. Zone is already prepped for power, utilities, fiber, and water for a massive geography. Local schools already prepped to develop STEM talent .... big planning lead time.
When Google's planners begin a project, they frequently do so under an alias name .... so even if the name got whispered there are few who know.
The secrecy is vital for both the infrastructure participants, as well as the economic development commissions themselves (very competitive) ... even moreso in Oklahoma or Texas .... MUCH longer lead times for RoW there.
I'm familiar with multiple data centers and communications hubs that are not identified or shown on online maps ... and there's a valid reason for that.
The 2020 Nashville explosion targeted an AT&T network facility on 2nd Ave North ... and resulted in days-long nationwide communication outages and damaging dozens of nearby buildings.
the guy drove a van packed with improvised explosives and parked it outside the AT&T switch site .... lots of damage both physically and economically..

The constant humming sound from big data centers that never turns off is the part that people have the most problems with, as it turns out.

She was forced out with the rent increase to $1450. She watched them crush her home while she and 4 kids were homeless.
All so the data center contractors could have land to live on while building. Up North these data center CONSTRUCTION jobs are going to union contractors that live nearby, and don't require boarding or per diem.
It was wrong to throw this poor person out of her trailer.
John Rich is dealing with this in TN helping others not lose their farms as they dont want bought out- I dont think the Louisiana poor person was offered compensation, was she?

The dude that owned it invented and got the patent on the cell phone batteries back in the 80’s. He was originally from around Delhi and moved back to be a sweet potato farmer. I think that’s maybe what his family did.

Exactly right. I didn’t know the old man, but hung out with the son and grandson for a few years. They’re good people. I’ve heard mixed stories about the old man but his wealth wasn’t up for debate.
