Lol. You are paying someone more to go after someone who makes less than they do in tips.

Americans shouldn’t be taxed at all - it should all come from tariff revenue

Nope. No carveouts. Tax all income equally, or don’t tax it at all.

Standard deductions are fine—they apply to everyone. But pandering is garbage policy

You wont even get that from libertarians because they won't vote on tax cuts.

You might have the right idea. But be in the present. Any small tax cut is a win.

Trump is trying to raise your standard deduction. Take it.

Thats a whole lot of winning for America and its hard working citizens. Probably sucks for the established politicians.

We need more hoodies and sweats in congress.

They can do a reconciliation bill that doesn't increase the deficit.

But can they do a budget reconciliation bill that the CBO won't claim increases the deficit? The answer is no, because the CBO hates tax cuts.

All of these things are worth losing because we aren't reducing spending enough immediately.

- myopic conservatives

It's just weird so many Republicans are choosing now to put their foot down. So many times, bloated bills were passed where we got nothing in return. Now that we are getting dozens of positive things, even a minor reprieve in spending, they've finally been pushed too far.

Choosing to die on this hill when we have a proven economic leader in the White House before that leader has a real chance to grow the stifled economy is odd timing. Unfortunate, some might say.

Trump has floated this plan. Everybody laughed at first but I think it's more possible than most thought

So much of that is naked vote buying and I’m surprised people on the right on this site are so happy with it.

Taxes on tips is such an easy example. We already complain about how ~50% of Americans don’t pay income tax…. “Make it higher!”

Tax on overtime is the same.

Child tax credit. This program was started in 1997 at $400, but of course daddy government wants to use it to buy votes…

Many of the above phase out in 2028/2029 so only 3-4 years of their expense is factored into the 10yr projection.

Why the frick aren't we taxing tips?

Why are we paying any income tax????

It’s the fricking federal Government that spends money like they can just print it out of thin air ….. oh wait. They do.

Why is no one sounding the alarm on inflation?? In 50 years, $20 will be worth as much as $2 today.

That’s not sustainable

5.$1.6 trillion in spending cuts — the largest rollback of government bloat in U.S. history.

It's a cut in the growth (read: potential growth) of spending and it's over the next 10 years. That's $160B, which means about an 8% cut to the growth of spending each year. Spending will still continue to grow, just (ideally) 8% less for the next 10 years (and that percentage will likely shrink as deficits continue to grow). This is also just in specific avenues of spending growth, there's nothing stopping spending from growing along other avenues to replace that (which is what often happens).

That's not a win, that's smoke and mirrors. If it was truly the win they proclaim it as, they wouldn't be using linguistic gymnastics to portray it as a cut to total spending.

This is a reconciliation bill. Only certain things can be included. It literally cannot do what you're crying about.

The mental gymnastics from the right is amazing...

"But only certain things can happen, so lets play in the grey area, increase spending and just add to the deficit bc not our fault"

The deficit when Trump leaves office is going to be 40+ Trillion and nothing will have been done to fix the deficit.

In addition to counting tax cuts, cuts in place but expiring, as spending towards the deficit there's another [necessary] accounting trick here that one has to watch for.

Let's say $100 billion gets 'moved' from USAID (State Dept) to the border wall (Interior/Homeland). Well money doesn't get 'moved' in the federal government. We would consider that a net 0 in our homes.

The accounting would show a 100 bln spending cut AND a 100 bln spending increase.

Those that support the bill would claim they cut $100 bln from State.

Those that oppose it would claim they increased spending by $100 bln.

Both are wrong technically, it was a net 0. But because of accounting by the CBO both can make the claim.

In short, by only talking about one aspect it makes it so much easier to us to be lied to.

When you are only told about spending in terms of deficit you are being lied to.

When you are only told about spending in terms of absolute dollars (leaving out deficit) you are being lied to.

If all this is true, the Trump administration has done a very poor job of communicating this.
