Your total costs are going to be similar. You just don’t see them because they’re paid by your employer.

Of course.. I'm talking out-of-pocket costs to the employee.

Meh, the experience of other countries teaches otherwise. If you’re young and relatively healthy, it’s fine. But imagine needing serious care and being told you have a one year wait.

As the Canadians who actually need medical care quip, "My dogs and cats get better care."

Hypothetically, if you make 75k and your work offers insurance, it’s a disservice to you.

You’re better off with an employer offering no insurance and getting it free from marketplace.

Almost to the point where you’re better off working part time and getting free healthcare rather than pony up 30k/year for it.

Job making 55k with no insurance + marketplace insurance nets you more than making 75k and being offered dogshit insurance that costs a family 25k in premiums.

Just work part time and get free healthcare….or better yet, find a job that doesn’t offer any health insurance at all.

Yep. I was a self-employed contract worker doing the same thing I do now. Obamacare policies were costing me about $650 10 years ago. When I got the offer from the Bank including benefits I took it and now I have a pension, nice 401K, cheap healthcare and I am easily on target to retire at 62. But I will probably work until Medicare kicks in.

Agree to disagree. I think it dents all costs significantly. We're subsidizing an illegal class of 50 million people, maybe a lot more than that. If you don't think costs would be a lot less without these people, can't help you.

In fact, outrage might be better focused on "The Fatties" getting the $5 Biggie Bags at Wendys if you want to get down to a segment driving up healthcare costs overall.
Ha! Big Fat Guy is just a funny handle, man.

Should we maybe make sure politicians aren’t trying to break our country with illegals and fraud first?

Premiums are out of control because there is no competition between insurance providers because they know the government will pay any difference between insured and provider. That is the main issue with the ACA subsidy. People making over 400% poverty rate are taking advantage of the subsidies when they can afford to pay for the marketplace insurance. If you knew that you could provide a service and also knew that person couldn't afford to pay you but the government can and will, then you would jump at the chance to charge whatever the hell you want. Insurance companies have insane profits

To be fair. Blue Cross are 1 of biggest dirt bags in the industry. And have always been that way.

Never had issue with BCBS. United Healthcare on the other hand. I’m shocked they still exist to this day.

Self insurance is the only way. Just spent 2 nights in the hospital. Admitted through the ER. Blood work, pain meds, echocardiogram, X-rays, etc. Received my CASH BILL $350 total - discounted from $3800 for NO INSURANCE. My medications are cheaper through Cost Plus or GoodRX without insurance.

This is why Obama added the question on the tax form regarding health insurance, he’s a scumbag who initiated the downfall of this country.
