What part of the country?

There’s no appreciable increase in burnout parents pretending to homeschool their kids in Missouri.

That sounds like something that goes out on an NEA monthly newsletter.

You've probably interacted with a ton of folks you'd never guess were homeschooled because they didn't fit your stereotype.

Most of my college friends were surprised af to learn I was homeschooled.

sounds like just her family that she is mad about. Homeschool is great for a lot of families not for all. Thank GOD we have the option to teach our kids how we want, being in public school system she should know that every kid learns different.

Dont be mad because I can teach to my kid's strength and what she wants to learn.

Neither does ever public school teacher.

We spend more money than almost any other nation (per capita) for mediocre results and kids who are experiencing social issues at school being drugged.

It's largely a job creator for adults and a day prison for kids.

I have a family member homeschooling their kids that I’m not happy about. But they’ll survive and it’s not like their children will be irreparably harmed. They’ll just need to catch up in a couple areas and none of them will graduate high school a mini communist or social justice warrior. It’s all a trade off.

To homeschool properly takes much more effort on the parents than going to school.

Most, not all families homeschool properly.

I did not choose to homeschool my kids.

But I respect the choice for most families.

BTW, my kids are achieving highly in a good public school.

I think, on average, parents who homeschool are overwhelmingly more interested in getting their kids a quality education than those who send their kids to public school.

I think you are threatened because these people do a better job than you do, and you are a teacher.

I work in the public school system and believe me when I tell you there is a percentage of parents (and it grows bigger every year) that should never try to homeschool their kids.

Products of our public school system should never try to homeschool their kids.

I'd like to see public school scores put up against home school scores.

Are they getting into Harvard?

My kids were homeschooled all of their lives. My daughter did well and is now an RN. My son had more of a natural aptitude for study (my daughter has some great talent in artistic areas) and was a National Merit Scholar - had offers from both Harvard and Yale (also MIT and Purdue) for full-ride scholarships.

For every great, educated parent homeschooling because it's best for their child, there is a drug addicted psycho cat mom who is homeschooling because they think the government is spying on them and their children.

No, there’s not. Maybe for every 25 dedicated moms there’s a psycho cat mom. But they’re rarely drug addicted.

Home school regs are pretty stringent in AL. You have to be aligned/enrolled in a cover-school that reports all of your records for attendance and school work. My wife taught our two children all the way through. One has finished her business degree at a private university and is now gainfully employed. The other will graduate this Fall with Biomedical degree with a minor in OChem. He is currently working as firefighter and in school full time. He wants go to medical school. Homeschooling worked great for us and the kids prospered. They played sports with their cover school, participated in high school courses taught by college professors Both took dual enrollment courses at UA to get college credit there jr/sr years of high school. And like someone else said, they were normally finished by 11 am. But then they would go to music lessons, etc. Great experience all the way around.

Oh. Good point.

What happens when a kid gets all Fs?

and even if they were, are they qualified to do so? Teachers go through years of education to be trained at what they do. We can’t devalue that by letting every parent who thinks they can try

There’s little correlation between being a good teacher and an education degree. Education degrees are really bad predictors of teaching success.

are you trying to say they don’t fail?

Not talking about kids’ letter grades, I’m talking about the grades the state gives the schools. I pass up the banner that says Chalmette High is an “A” school all the time

Must protect the teachers. It’s all about money and influence.
