agree, ever meet a real home schooled kid?

I was in college when I met and actually talked to a homeschooled kid. Was the strangest kid I ever met..

Kid had zero social skills...

Before I retired, I had to supervise a young man who was just like this. Wonderful guy, morally, but he could not communicate with people, and that was essential to the job. And I’m not just talking about introverted; I’m talking about scared to talk to people.

I agree..those kids should fail, but those parents still won’t get the message.

We all know this is a made up story.

Is there any leftist policy remaining that isn't based in banning or taxing something?

A few friends of mine who know I was homeschooled forwarded that to me yesterday. It's boggling my mind that that's real and not a troll

Holy shite! How stupid do you have to be, to be a Harvard professor? Today's homeschoolers are not 120 years old and they were subject to those compulsory education laws. Chances are, if they're so fricking stupid, it's because this worthless bitch's system of public education failed them.

Public schools are an outdated concept long past their usefulness, except as leftist indoctrination day camps, and this subhuman cµnting leftist is proof of it.

Authoritarians obviously cannot handle opposing opinions or the truth. They are driven by their insatiable desire for control, power, and rule over others.

How much would they get in a public school? Seriously.

Kids who need to be held back are simply passed along to the next grade year after year, because any failures are a negative mark against the school. Federal dollars are tied to school performance, so principals/administrators are not about to let schools look bad and lose money.

That is precisely how kids graduate high school these days no knowing how to read, write or do much beyond simple math.

I remember reading a few years ago that homeschooled kids generally outperform public school kids in college testing (SAT & ACT). Not sure if that still holds true, but I would be willing to bet it is.

The one area where homeschooled kids are deficient is usually social skills. When all you're around is family, you don't develop socially as much as you would being exposed to others.

Wrong.

Home schoolers tend to get out and rub shoulders in the community at an earlier age than their peers stuck in traditional classrooms. Plus, most homeschoolers today co-op--they're socializing with other homeschoolers routinely, not just holed up with family 24/7.

The "socialization" critique is bunk.

I know great home school families and those not so great.

I 100% feel it should be a legal option and it is best for some families.

In my job I interact with some home school students with social issues.

No student is weird because they are homeschooled.

They are homeschooled because they lack the social skills to get along with the other students and school is a negative and painful experience.

Homeschool does not turn socially adept kids weird.

As a disclaimer. My kids attend public school but if school was miserable for my kids I would homeschool.

Also, some very advanced kids are homeschooled by advanced parents to get a step up.

There’s none in public schooling. Why should homeschooling be different?

She might not do it intentionally but a lot of home school families where I live do this and call it "unschooling" basically learning by being in the world.

As to the idiot professor's point about child abuse, that would most likely happen if homeschool or not and to counter her its preventing kids from being sexually harassed at a public school

Nope. It's her choice. She fricks up the kids she lives with it..

We've been homeschooling ours. My wife was a teacher and we were tired of pouring everything she had into other people's kids while mine were dumped at daycare until 6 pm every night. Our job is to be a parent and be the role model.

We chose through an exhaustive search an accredited curriculum that is heavily literature based. We supplement with extracurricular activities as well as meet up with more than a dozen other children for "field trips", socializing, etc. Our choice was to be the people with the most influence formulating them while they are young. They keep school hours and have a regular schedule.

A parent has to choose what they want for their kids and should have the damn right to do so. If the parents choose selfishly or poorly that's on them. Accountability.

We've seen a huge increase into encroachment of the state into the homeschool world. I look at it like firearms... You give them a fricking inch and they take a mile.
