Exactly. Also doesn’t help that the most ardent of the 30-40% tend to lash out at those who are literally voting for their guy but also have an honest discussion on his faults.

No, I agree. I think that was Bush's strategy at the GOP convention. The left painted him as a war criminal and murderer. He needed to come off a likeable and relatable as possible, even to the point of making fun of himself. That is not Trump. Never has been, never will be.

Exactly
the current negative campaign has a cap. Hes not going to grow the base with his current tactics.
He needs to get out and offer people who arent traditional working class folks something, besides "Harris Bad" and continually fighting past elections.
Hes still hung up on 2020.

For one thing, she's actually courting them rather than actively alienating them.
For another, the country has reached a point at which a POTUS election is just like Class President elections in Middle School. It's just a popularity contest for the strong majority of people who vote. Policy doesn't matter to them.
Policy doesn't matter to the rightist populists on this board. It doesn't matter what it is or how bad an idea it is, if Trump says we should do it, the populists here are all for it.
How much more do you think the average citizen voter who pays zero attention to politics ignores policy?
Those people (that 12%) aren't choosing between platforms or ideas. At all. They are looking at an old thin skinned narcissist who is frequently a dick to various people and a somewhat weird much younger woman who is at least cheerful pretty much all the time. The TikTok tells them that the old guy is awful and the laughing woman is great.
And they really aren't considering anything else.
It doesn't surprise me the least little bit.
