For instance, forget imposing the same tariff on Canada as Mexico despite Mexico being FOUR HUNDRED TIMES more culpable than Canada
You know there is also a large trade imbalance with Canada, and we provide for most of Canada’s defense right?

Why are liberals so stupid?
But you don't understand. The 100,000 American lives lost each year due to fentantyl overdose are necessary to get more democratic voters. Open borders= more democrat voters. Sorry if you lost your son or daughter but we believe their sacrifice is necessary to give liberals control of our government.

But I’m sure many posters on here have had loved ones or people they know die from overdoses.
Prior to Fentanyl it was Oxy, then Heroin.
Getting rid of Fentanyl will not drop the demand for opiates. Its a multi billion dollar market and will never die.

43 lbs is 453,000 mg. The lethal dose of Fentanyl is 2mg. So…..225,0000 people could’ve died.
Ok now do 20 tons

I'm not a liberal. I try to see facts. I'm not emotionally invested in WHY President Trump is actually imposing a tariff on Canada.
My GUESS is that President Trump is imposing the tariff as leverage to improve our trade imbalance with Canada. To pretend he really is doing it to stem the flow of fentanyl from Canada seems incredibly naive.
What behavior is Trump trying to modify? Again, what action would you expect from the Canadian government to stop 43 pounds of ANYTHING from being seized at the US border?

I believe the issue of fentanyl coming from Canada is a red herring. I think Trump is trying to get them to believe he thinks it's a HUGE deal (and thus his focus) so that when negotiations begin, he will seem to be giving ground by relenting on that issue in exchange for Canada backing down on something like dairy tariffs.

I don’t understand your point. If we are taking measures to try to prevent 10 million people dying we should take less measures to prevent 225,000 people dying?
We shut the fricking whole country and economy down to prevent the fricking flu which only presumably killed very old or sick people.

Correct
And it doesn't matter how this is resolved. They will claim 4D Chess/Art of the Deal, even if nothing of substance occurs. Then it will be "at least we started a conversation"
The irony is their reliance on emotional projection (The total doses could kill MILLIONS) and then claiming any response to this is emotional

ABSOLUTELY. That's my point. I think President Trump's ACTUAL reason is to address those issues. Why people have to pretend it has anything to do with fentanyl mystifies and amuses me.
I'm just a stickler for accuracy. In my meaningless opinion, I would prefer that President Trump state the actual reason for imposing the same amount of tariff on Canada as Mexico. It's obviously NOT because of fentanyl given the disparity in fentanyl coming in from Canada vs Mexico. Then again, I trust that President Trump has a reason for this approach.

I think 104M is closer than 10M
It shows the absurdity of the argument, as 20 tons actually came from Mexico and nowhere near 104M people died. It's an argument based in emotional priming.
This is the same illogical reasoning LEOs use to inflate the value of drugs they seize.

Everyone knows we capture 100% of the illegal goods that come over the borders.
Eta
Or you know, that fentanyl is actually the only purpose behind the tariffs.

I don’t want it in this country even though it does cull the herd. Sometimes you have to save the bottom feeders from themselves. The only problem is they will go back to meth and heroin if fent is reduced
It's not just meth and heroin addicts. A family member of a friend of mine OD'd from weed laced with fentanyl. He didn't do other drugs, just the casual weed smoker. Who knows if it was intentionally or accidentally laced.

Ivory Bill,
Have you ever thought that maybe he knows that there could be thousands of pounds of Fentanyl coming across the Northern Border???
And do you realize Canada has been taken over by the CCP as a shadow Gov’t?
Trudeau is in bed with the CCP and that right there is enough to put the smack down on that fruitcake Trudeau. communist bastard.
But WOW, some of you people on here are straight retarded!
Do you even think before posting?

80k people a year die from Fentanyl directly as reported by the CDC. I’d argue that it is a lot higher than that. Not to mention the non deaths that wreck people’s lives and relatives lives.
We are putting tariffs for cooperation in helping the problem. Your point would be valid if we put tariffs on Canada but not Mexico.
Border security is only one issue for the tariffs. We are getting trade fricked by both these countries. It’s part of the larger picture.
