So his game plan was to NOT bring manufacturing back? I think Obama said that before Trump's first term, too.

Trump has what....$5 trillion new investments into the US and that was agreed to before any of this tariff stuff went into effect. We just going to forget about all those potential jobs?

Its disappointing for sure. Trump is doing a LOT of really good things that are badly needed. But this isht show is an unforced effort that’s going to really hurt in 2026.

It’s kinda like sending Jamie Howard out to throw bombs with the lead at Auburn.

Everyone arguing knows Trump probably didn't have one clear objective for this saga because he doesn't have any overarching ideology. The "centerpiece" of this entire thing will probably change another half dozen times before it's done and his focus moves to something else, and there is a pretty good chance that job creation/income tax relief comes back into the fold as an objective before it does.

Ultimately, progressives will be mad because nothing is destroyed and diehard MAGA people will have to accept stability and incremental progress rather than grand watershed moments.

That’s fair criticism. End of day, Trump just has a hard on for Tariff revenue, and will have to be convinced that a trade deficit doesn’t mean we are getting ripped off if there are no tariffs causing it.

Then we have the knee jerk overreactions to every little piece of news that hits. I swear, the back and forth of the last week has been a sight to behold.

Free trade would make it less expensive to export American goods increasing US manufacturing.

He's also still forcing China's hand which could create a void for additional US manufacturing, especially pharmaceuticals which should have never been in the hands of our biggest rival.

I think the the idea that the administration went into this with a specific goal is short sighted. I think they saw tremendous leverage which if used would be met with infinite international responses all of which had beneficial but varying outcomes for America. I'm also JAG so who knows

Manufacturing isn't coming back because all the underlying factors for why it left in the first place are all still here. High taxes, high regulations, runaway spending which devalues the dollars and drives up inflation, unions, environmentalists, etc.

The reason manufacturing left isn't because we weren't taxing American businesses enough on their imports.

I bet my retired grandmother can't wait for the added cost to her medicine

Just admit that this was handled very poorly to this point

This is not a win. Trump caved to stocks tanking and essentially admitting defeat while trying to save some face.

It was always going to be like this. It'll probably go through 3 more cycles.

There is no real way for Trump to do the major overhaul people want, it would take multiple administrations and the near-term pain would likely ensure that Vance doesn't get a chance to take it forward.

Why are you ignoring the 125% tariff on China?

Are you retarded or play one on TV?

Man, I wish someone would have pointed out that some of these goals are contradictory.
