It’s any business
We have a small sales firm, 4 employees, no “office”
We have to pay the parish for an occupational license every year, it’s a couple thousand IIRC
It serves no purpose other than to generate income for the parish

But reforms do need to be made to the disciplinary process. Like maybe adding due process
Almost all of these except for maybe medical, education, law, and handful of others could be replaced by insurance.

All of these licenses and their requirements are managed by a plethora of boards and commissions (political appointees) which were created by Huey Long to circumvent local governments. Most of them are relics and completely unnecessary. However, we'll know who swings the big stick when "their" board or commission isn't eliminated or pared down.

Funeral attendant

Every one is dying to get this one.

Death is not a cheap way out when add up final expenses for your loved ones.

And don't depend on insurance being readily available after death. You have to wait until the state issues a death certificate and that can take a few weeks. Luckily most funeral homes are in on the money racket and will do all the paper work to file for your life insurance so they can make sure that everyone is paid after the funeral for a fee of course.

But some things are not advanceable, in some place you still have to pay cash upfront for the burial location and other expenses.

Would this apply to all occupations? Like teaching, dentistry, embalming, etc?

Probably a money grab for the State Fire Marshall's Office to make sure that you don't have too many people inside. They also review any plans and changes. I say make you pay it then otherwise, why the yearly fee, unless they count on coming in to doing random rare inspections and to collect fines.

The irony of you trying to ridicule this common sense action by Landry and yet you can't even use the correct form of grammar.

The best way to do this is to eliminate any of the frivolous licenses and reform the system to allow licenses provided from other states to be good here. That would allow for licenses pros to move here and continue to do business without incurring more costs.

Florists needing a state license to sell plants is absurdly ridiculous. For example.

The PE for engineers needs to be updated, too. Most other states allow you to take the PE after five years of experience. Louisiana requires five years of work under a PE and letters of recommendation.

This limits candidates unless you work for an EPC or lucky to work with a PE in a private company.

Yep, it can cost a man thousands of dollars in up front costs just to be able to workas a licensed PAINTER!!

If you want to work for yourself in this state, you have to pay the state for permission.

How about a notary license? A lot of states don’t require the process we do.
