“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.”

I wonder if J.P. Morgan will follow suit. If not, they’ll get a nice bump in fees. Boutique banks will also step in to fill the gap.
If Goldman was truly woke, they’d refuse to provide any advisory services to these firms as well. Probably cost them too much.

Goldman Sachs is in the business of making money. Their decisions will reflect such. What this means is that inclusion has gotten to the point where it is now unavoidable.
And the reason this isn't a thing in Asia yet is because their culture hasn't dictated it.
Much ado about nothing here, to be honest. Zero sum argument. Six of one half a dozen of another.

What happens to corporate governance when you have some useless board member whose only talent is their skin color or gender?

If you are a large retailer based in a rural southern state, you get bigger in spite of FLOTUS’ presence.

Weren’t they the ones who got bailed out by the govt during the banking collapse?

So if I get Milo on the board I'm OK?

Goldman Sachs - been nice knowing you.
I wish that was true. But this sort of stupidity will not be punished.
Most boards voluntarily try to have diversity. So this is really more virtue signalling than anything.
The only way this might matter is if someone or some group purposely tries to make it matter by constructing a case and then suing.
But who wants to waste their time and money and get a reputation as racist, sexist, etc for a symbolic victory?
And thus this type of garbage wins. Where is the CATO institute when you need them?

So they have to go find a minority to fill a spot... how does that conversation go?
Hey, we need a token black/gay/female. We really don’t want or need you, and you are less qualified than the person we want, but the jobs yours if you want...
Anyone who supports this is a fricking moron.

The mandate is the latest in a series of signals that non-diverse boards and management are unacceptable. BlackRock Inc. and State Street Global Advisors are voting against directors at companies without a female director. Public companies with all-male boards based in California now face a $100,000 fine under a new state law.
How is this even legal?

Sounds like discrimination.
they would lose if pushed by a company, but company would get a lot of bad press.

How DARE they assume someone’s race, gender or sexual orientation just by looking at them!!!!
Posted on 1/24/20 at 4:02 pm to L.A.
This gives new meaning to the word token.
