I hope LeBron put up a significant portion of that funding.

Looked like a terrible movie but there is pent up demand.

Why is China blocking? That makes no sense?

They never should have put lebron in this. Steph would have been better. Everyone hates LeBron.

They never should have tried to remake the movie. The first one was perfect.

LeBron James' Space Jam cost $200 million to make

Production cost was $150M

And so far, worldwide totals are over $53M including international box office

Marketing and distribution costs aren’t in that $150m.

But the media isn't discussing it. Why not?

They don't normally devote segments to kids movies.

The media is discussing and says its a box office success. Opening weekend was 31.7M so not sure where you get 60-70 total. Bad reviews but making money.

It's not a box office success until it at least covers the cost of making it which it is far from atm.

Yeah if it drops dramatically week over week and China still won't release it to theaters then its over. What I'm reading with promotion more like 250M. Deep hole to climb out of. What is hilarious is MSM saying its an absolute block buster, too funny!

I can't say for certain, but I believe it may be because James, the film's star, is black.

I know that many Chinese versions of movie posters for American flicks have cropped-out black cast members.

On top of that, film grosses are split between the studio and exhibitor.

A film grossing $300m only returns roughly $150m to the studio depending on what week the grosses were in and the contract between the studio and the exhibitor.

No argument here. My kids have asked to see it but I can't bring myself to take them, simply because I don't like Lebron James. I've endured a number of bad movies in theaters for my children, but this is a bridge too far.

That's really sad. Get over yourself.

I'm not going to watch it because of LeBron, but the media is talking about it right now because it outdid Black Widow over the weekend which was a bit surprising even though Black Widow has been out a couple weeks.

$50mil marketing not included.
Movies like this don't tend to have larger 2nd, 3rd, 4th weeks, etc. That's what the poster is talking about.

It may creep to $150-200mil, but it may not.

Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, et al had and have a cross-racial appeal. Lebron doesn't really have the personality required for it. Kobe would have been a better choice, if they had made the movie earlier.

Yep.
He's involved in the Aretha Franklin biopic as well.
I don't see that doing very well either.
Nothing against her, just don't see the mainstream demand.

That's not surprising to me because anyone that wanted to see Black Widow already has.
