You copied that word for word from a tweet.

Space Jam 2 cost $200 million to make and market and will likely only make $60-70 million without China. Meaning LeBron’s movie will lose over a hundred million dollars, at least. China blocking the movie is a huge story. But no one is even discussing it in media. Strange.

This is actually bad news. Want to guess why?

At least Cos had the balls to go on TV and tell people not to watch it.

You take the same rate out to about 25 weeks and you still only reach $119m.
Unless there are openings in additional markets (China) with huge grosses, this isn’t making its money back until home video, and that may still take a while.
This will likely never turn a profit. They probably spent $200 million in excess of the production budget on P&A and distribution. Home video sales are on rapid decline. Luckily for WAG Trump tax cuts give huge deductions to film producers.
And isnt that funny... Trump gave a huge tax cut to his most vocal critics.

Many expensive flops eventually turn a profit but it takes quite a while.
Cleopatra was a costly flop for Fox in the 60s which forced them to sell off their backlot for what became Century City. It finally turned a profit in the 90s between theatrical releases, free TV, pay TV, home video, etc.

Lebron, would have been loved by people everywhere if he hadn't let his racism shine through.
He hates America, we get it. I don't want to have anything to do with people like that. People like Lebron, do more harm for their sport than good. One day, they'll understand why. Until then, frick 'em.

Lol so Lebron dedicated his life to guzzling CCP jizz and they wont air it?

Refused to let my daughter watch it, then explained crybaby LeBron antics on race and equality, and his willful ignorance on Muslim slaves in China or lack of freedom in Hong Kong. SCREW that POS and everything he touches.

The original Space Jam was horrible. Why would anyone pay to see a remake?
Posted on 7/21/21 at 2:22 pm to anc
This will definitely lose money, just like all woke things do. The media will pretend like it was a huge success and popular, in order to protect the image of their ideology, and spin it in their favor. If you read between the lines, you will see it for what it is though, a costly mistake and failure.
Side note, Rick and Morty further tarnished their brand by participating in this movie...that show is just as woke garbage as anything else. It doesn't deserve to be popular or its reputation as cutting edge honest social commentary

I actually couldn't find a link that they are blocking space jam 2.
Apparenlty they are blocking space jam 1 because it mixed animation and people (weird).
Can someone provide a link?
BTW Black Panther was very successful in China
I'm almost certain that most in China have never heard of Yosemite Sam/ Bugs Bunny , Looney Tunes , etc......
1) Lebron has already been paid
2)Its the #1 movie in America with $60`mil profits in 3 days
3)The movie is also playing on Warner owned HBO for free
They would not allow HBO streams if they were strictly concerned about box office that they will eventually recover.

WB has been putting most of their new movies on HBO Max day and date with theaters, not just Space Jam, and it has been a very contentious issue.
A few specific filmmakers whose films were announced for this, like the ones behind Dune, were PISSED over this and let WB know it.
In general, a lot of actor and director pay is tied up in “gross points”, meaning a percentage of all money taken in. Releasing the movie either direct to HBO Max or day and date with HBO Max means less gross, which fricks the actors and filmmakers.
WB seems fine with that because it isn’t really costing them a lot and is in turn helping prop up the HBO Max service which is still in its infancy compared to Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, etc.

No argument here. My kids have asked to see it but I can't bring myself to take them, simply because I don't like Lebron James. I've endured a number of bad movies in theaters for my children, but this is a bridge too far.
Sign up for a trial to HBOMax to let the kids watch it and then cancel.

It's popular because it's crude, raunchy and funny adult entertainment.
Damn! Not every-fricking-thing is about social bullshite.
