This keeps being repeated but is demonstrably false.

Trump was a registered Democrat from 2001 to 2011. At all other points in his life, he was either registered as Republican or Independent.

True.

What's interesting is Trump dropped the Republican Party because of Dubya's Afghanistan and Iraq war BS, one would think these bleeding heart liberals/Cultural Marxists would appreciate that stance by Trump, stop the endless wars.

What are Donald Trumps "core beliefs" ? Not policy beliefs.

In general, you know what to expect from Trump with regards to domestic and foreign policies.

Actually no.... I have no idea what his foreign policy will be. In fact I've asked this board many times how Trump and MAGA will square their isolationist bend while somehow keeping bad actors in check....especially with everything happening now....I never get a coherent answer.

To be fair to him he never mentions Jesus Christ. Only “god” and only after the ear scratch. He does say he loves evangelicals often. Usually, actually always, in the context of fighting for Israel.

I saw an interview he did in 1999 where he was asked his views on gay marriage and gays in service. He admitted that he hadn't deeply studied either issue, but he had no personal issues with them.

This was back when most every politician was against it. A decade before Obama's "evolution". Today, listening to dems and their kept media, you'd swear his lgbtq policy was taken straight from the Quran.

His foreign policy is crystal clear. He stated in last week in front of an equal mix of US and Israeli flags.

Aren't you the guy that started a thread titled "Give Trump his due, the man has not really changed politically over the past 40 year"?

Trump is a lot of good things and any rational adult will vote for him this fall, but the notion that he's not changed politically in 40 years and that's a sign of principled confidence is silly.

lol. 40 years ago Trump was pretty much apolitical.
. He still has no serious political beliefs except to the extent they serve
his personal ambition.

A few things that Trump seems to mention a lot is getting US supply chains less dependent on foreign countries and bringing critical industries back to the US that put the country at risk during conflict with other nations, such as pharmaceutical and sophisticated IC manufacturing. Trump also wants NATO/EU to become more invested in their own protection and stop relying on the US for their primary deterrent to any aggression against NATO members.

Of course Trump wants a complete shutdown of unfettered illegal immigration and that starts with a formidable border wall/barrier on the southern border....maybe if Trump wins in 2024 more Rs in the House and Senate will help to pass the America First/MAGA agenda rather than working to kneecap Trump.

I think he's, at heart, ambivalent on a lot of the social bullshite issues. I think that's actually one of the things that got him over the hurdle electorally. I don't know that it necessarily means he's "changed" politically.

He’s been America first since the 70’-80’s. Plenty of videos how he wanted policies that kept foreign countries to have footings in this country. Back then it was Japanese companies buying land and businesses in America

Trump is a deeply flawed and imperfect man but he's not a danger to the constitutional republic .....he may be a perceived threat to Cultural Marxist Dimocrazy. Trump's libertarian in some ways.

“registered as” doesn’t always tell the story as well as what his positions were and who he supported. But either way, what was asserted in the topic of this thread isn’t correct-

quote:

Give Trump his due, the man has not really changed politically over the past 40 years.

Trump adopted a line of rhetoric that fit with the caricature of himself he created for his reality TV show. He’s by no means some great political mind.

On the big issues he sure has been consistent. I have listened to several of his older interviews at different ages and he is talking about a lot of the same issues he is today.

This. Same here, and it’s interesting to not only hear some of those same things he still says now, but the audiences that were willing to listen.

And people that call him a democrat seem to not understand what a democrat currently is. He is their #1 enemy.

He doesn't need to be a great political mind. In fact, it's a blessing that he isn't.

All he needs to do is run the country like a business, which he has proven he can already. Screw the politics. Execute business decisions.

I am 100% pro-life, no exceptions. It's Trump who flirts with the immoral side of the issue, not me.

Just the other day someone posted video of him on the View in the past and how much they loved him. He discussed some of the same policies he has now and the crowd was cheering him.
