If you believe federal income tax can be replaced by tariffs, I've got a very large bridge to sell you.
Before Federal income taxes existed, tariffs is how our government paid for goods and services.

He'd also need to drastically cut federal spending, or the debt would skyrocket and we'd default.

1. Tariffs would not generate enough revenue to replace income taxes. 2. Income taxes will never be replaced.
We don’t need enough revenue with tariffs, if waste is cut.

Trump can get rid of federal income tax
He can't. We need to repeal the 19th amendment for any chance at all. There is always someone that needs to be rescued, and women and Asians will always vote to spend more for schools, etc.

Things are a bit different now, domestically and internationally

You think?
About a Trillion and a half's worth of SS every year, another two Trillion for Medicare/Medicaid, national defense kicks in for another cool Trillion.
I think you're right. Only one of those things existed back when we were paying as we went off tariffs alone.
And the one that did was a tiny fraction of what we spend now.
Might be too much for what amounts to an international toll road fee.

You should re check your numbers
I hate the immoral income tax as much as anyone but anyone seriously thinking that we can replace it with tarriffs is dreaming
It would be far more possible to replace with a combo consumption tax plus tarriffs but not tarriffs alone
Either way, the cost of goods would go up and liberals have long whined about that being more unfair than the income tax
I disagree

You earn 1000$ from your employer
Your employer withholds federal income tax.
Depending on your state, your employer also holds state income tax.
You then use what your left with to buy goods. Those goods are also taxed.
Own a home? Own your land? Property tax.
Not what our founding fathers intended.
Really is mind boggling how voters didn't vote out every politician over the years that supported this crap that has been destroying us!

Tariffs don’t need to “replace” income tax, that’s the point, Congress can make do, like the rest of us when we have a cut in funds
Just to fund the military at current levels, tariffs would have to be at 25-30%. To fund our military and debt service, tariffs would have to be at 50-60%.

Trump can't even get Congress to pass the SAVE act in order to require voter ID. How in the hell do you think he would be able to push through the elimination of income taxes?
That's like being unable to lift a 5lb dumbbell and then for your next attempt, trying to lift an elephant.

Combine tarrifs with fraud cuts, illegals out of our system, welfare and snap overhaul, and try again.

Nope.
Not even if we stopped SS and Medicare tomorrow, which is where all the money is currently being spent.
