Can you say "Depression"?
Our GDP has been addicted to massive deficits since 2008. Let me say that again; addicted to deficits, not just spending but constant and large debt creation. Without that we would have:
1. A massive drop in consumer spending as the economy attempted to adjust to the new, slower economy. This would lead to a massive spike in Unemployment.
2. Congress would borrow even more each year to make up the budget shortfall, thus speeding up the crushing of the USD under the weight of federal debt.
3. Some combination of 1 & 2.
Don't get me wrong, the income tax was a bad idea which was made into an even shittier reality. I would love to see it repealed, but that desire doesn't blind me to the fiscal reality of it.

If you believe federal income tax can be replaced by tariffs, I've got a very large bridge to sell you.
Income tax makes up around half of the federal government revenues.
There's no way tariffs alone will make that up. He's got to be planning on introducing a federal sales tax to replace the lost income tax revenue. Which I'd prefer because then people who get paid in cash can't escape income taxes by under-reporting their actual income.

Will not happen. You need congress to vote this into place and we've already seen what a useless Republican congress we have.

It can be done, just needs to privatize Social Security (which should have been done decades ago) and return welfare to the state level.
There needs to be heavier Tariffs and there need to be penalties on company’s that reduce American workforces and export jobs. The H1B program needs to be completely scrapped. All immigration needs to be temporarily closed. All asylum/refugee nonsense is permanently banned, we don’t do that crap anymore.
Once we clear out all of the riffraff then we can come up with some rational immigration laws based on a merit based lottery system with MAXIMUMS and limited rights for those immigrants (no federal voting rights for their first 10 years, zero tolerance for any criminal offenses, no remittances to any other country, etc.).
Clear all that up and the problems solve themselves.
Oh yeah, Congress and their families can no longer invest in the stock market and term limits are enacted and enforced.

since 63% of american's pay no income tax this would only affect the 37% of americans who do.

Wrong. Minnesota showed us the way.
Everyone stop paying and when the IRS shows up get out in the streets and start blowing whistles.

Taxation without representation will be straw that breaks the camels back - stealing from me and giving to another who doesn’t do shite.

This is the endgame. The income tax is merely a symptom of the cancer of the Fed.

If you have a mortgage, you’re paying property tax on property that you don’t even own. Then, when you actually do own it, they will take it from you if you don’t pay property tax.

The only way to slow congressional overspending is a balanced budget amendment. We will never see that. So, we’re screwed.

Tarrifs could never replace the amount of money received by the income tax
The impact to the price of goods would be a problem too

Why does anyone think congress will give up one of the biggest points of leverage they have. It's a mechanism for them to give out favors and the power that comes with it. It is a pipe dream to think it will go away. Trump is transformative but it only goes so far.

Take a revolution to stop it - I have my whistle and phone camera ready.

All of you wanting no federal income tax. Are you ok with slashing the military budget to pennies on the dollar? We are spending a trillion a year on it, I'd be thrilled with cutting it in half but republicans only want to fund it even higher which cost money.

I’d prefer a 10% national sales tax on every single thing bought and sold in the US to whoever

All of you fricktards can feel free to keep donating to this bloated monster of a bullshite central government.
They’re fricking showing you what your stolen money is being used for, and you’re still all cucks.
Federal income taxes (and property taxes for that matter) are going away and it’s about fricking time. We should all be rioting on the street like the stupid ICE protesters but about tax thievery ( a righteous cause).
We founded this country and gave the Brits an arse whooping over a small fraction of what the are stealing from us now.
At this point we shouldn’t even be giving them a choice.
Trump is giving it to back to you because you don’t have the balls to just take it.
Bunch of pussies.
I’m not waiting.

There's a better chance that Greenland gets invaded by US forces than this ever happens unfortunately.
But what if it can be cut by a 1/3? or 1/2?
I would take that any day.

Looks like everyone is missing the fact that if it weren’t for the enormous waste, fraud, and abuse, they wouldn’t need income tax to fund the government. The Somali fraud is just the tip of the iceberg.
