Unless it's Ed O'Bannon I feel bad. Hope they make serious advances to improve their health, but every football player knows that by playing they could be giving away their life.

Nope, it's the female left wing journalists who are leading the charge. They want football abolished because there is no female version of it.
USA Today even puts their columns on the front page instead of sports. The themes demanding the abolition of FB are always the same but they rotate according to current events:
a. concussions, unsafe
b. fosters male aggression toward women
c. money that could be spent on other programs

I don't believe football will cease to exist, but it will become like boxing in that it is around and popular, but not really mainstream.
I hope not though.
I know several very athletic high school kids who are not playing football for this very reason. A few years ago, they definitely would've been. Now they do basketball, soccer, track, etc. Once those numbers continue to grow over the next decade, football will be in trouble.

That's a sad story. I hope he can get the medical help he needs. I sometimes wonder if these guys are actually seeking advanced medical help. I saw recently where former QB Jim McMahon had severe memory loss issues for years, and he eventually found a doctor that properly evaluated him and was able to help him.

It's going to have to be done through legislation or good intentions on the part of a multi-billion dollar company the NFL.
Because as long as they pay millions of dollars to get knocked in the head, athletes who grow up in difficult conditions will continue to see this as their way out.

And Americanism. The one thing nearly all Americans have in common is their love for football, and that perpetuates the idea that we are exceptional or different from the rest of the world.
Soccer is not so bad. It's global and we suck at it so we can deal with it later.
