Bought 25 acres last year, got a new tractor today, but if I can’t get diesel for it that won’t be incredibly helpful. Have about 6 months of food put away for my family already.

People keep bringing up hunting as a long term solution, but if the shite really hits the fan, how long do you think you’re going to be able to hunt your land successfully? Poaching will be rampant and game animal populations will quickly plummet as people hunt with tools such as night vision. It’ll be like deer hunting in Alabama back in 1920 all over again.

If you want an idea of how this might go. Read up on the last quarter or so of the 1700’s. Now imagine the exact opposite.

Once it starts don’t count on living off the land, All game and fish belong to the government, why should you be so privileged to eat the king’s game when others are starving? Same thing with growing crops. That’s the government’s responsibility. Government will plant and harvest all crops. You may or may not be allowed to remain in your home but all food is government property and will be confiscated, more than likely the government will need to move you to a nearby city. It’s easier to keep you safe that way.

Sounds crazy. It is crazy. But let there be a real food shortage and you’ll see something at least pretty similar. . I have no idea if there is any real chance of running out of food, but take a look around, you’d be a fool not to think it’s a possibility.

Just take solace in the fact that BoarEd is wrong about 90% of the time.

I've never seen someone who I agree with politically as much as him but who is also wrong so often

Anyone counting on hunting for getting protein or even fishing… if shite hits the fan really everything will be over hunted and fished in the first 2 weeks.

And how much can people actually store food wise.

If you are saying hunting and fishing isn't a good option, then we are really screwed.

How? Most people don't know how to hunt without a corn feeder running.

You make hunting sound easy. Most people wouldn't even know where to start. Waterfowl are the most numerous species (or group of species) we hunt, and they would be out of reach for 99% of people outside of the fall.

Half the population will die without meds. Insulin, blood pressure, anxiety meds. They will go quick. The cities wil fall fast and rural parts will defend themselves.

Everyone who thinks they’ll just shoot deer are being shortsighted. Do the math. There are what, about 30 million whitetail deer in the US and 350 million people? If 10% of the population kills 1 deer within 1 month we are screwed. Then the pressure starts on other animals. That’s why game populations were so low years ago. Populations weren’t managed and commercial meat production wasn’t in place like it is today.

Really depends where you live in the cities and suburbs yes I agree but not everyone lives there. Hell we probably have more hogs /deer than people here

You probably do, but that requires a shite ton of water preps as well.

Many of the comments on challenges to hunting are spot on, but also remember that without a full gas tank and the ability the drive around freely, you’ll be limited to your 4WD tennis shoes.
