3/4 acre devoted to malabar spinach, purslane, sweet potato, german butterball potato, dragon fruit and mango and loquat and mirliton. We also raise quail.
It took over a decade of devotion to make the garden highly productive. There was a steep learning curve with considerable loss the first two years. Gardening is a skill and a constant learning process.

Wife has been wanting chickens, but I didn’t want more shiat to take care of. Might go ahead and pull the trigger. Freezer full of meat. Pantry stocked. MREs and camping food for several days. Ammo and fishing poles. Tons of worms for bait. A couple ponds nearby and even a creek with tiny redneck lobsters.

I'm 47 with two very young boys (almost 2 and 3.5). We watch homesteading videos every day and most "free" time is spent land hunting. I'm down to a handful of options 6-10ac range all close to (one on) large WMA game/fishing areas. Most of the lots on our list have well, septic and power already. Adding to my solar/lifepo4 bank tomorrow. Garage-ready freezer arrives next week. Have large propane tank (250gal) and some small one and generator, camp stoves. May preorder the ecoflow lithium powered air conditioner.

I have hunting, fishing and farming deep and wide in my blood but have a lot to learn. I just hope I haven't waited too long. Life events of the past 6 years have delayed the shite I started 16 years ago.

Eta: not to sound like a dick, but it really helps to already be thin and able to fast at will. I eat basically one meal a day and am back to teetotaling. A dual-fuel metabolism is the way to go when SHTF.

I left these important staples off my earlier post but I bought a 50lb bag of rice and some beans too….oh, and a lot of spices and canned goods.

Me and my three other bros have a 18 ft river john with a 50hp Merc…..we fish the Mighty Mo for flatheads, channels and blues…..ain’t no thang to catch 30-40 lbs of fish on any given day.

I use coupons and store promotions to stock up on necessities and maintain a generous stockpile. I grow vegetables and fruits that I can or freeze. I know how to hunt and fish. Living on a working cattle farm provides beef.

Non-perishable canned goods.

Those 'food buckets' you see advertised are not really that great. They are full of salt, preservatives, fillers and who know what else.
I have a few for each family member though, Mountain House.

There is a ton of good canned food that can be bought off the shelf.

Tuna
Sardines
Salmon
Chili
Corned Beef Hash
Hams
Spam
Vienna sausage
Chunk chicken, ham
Roast beef
Beans, peas, corn...

Vacuum seal meats, venison, pork, chicken, fish... for storage. Same for vegetables & fruits.

Instead of throwing away left-overs, reheat them fro the next day, take them to the job, vacuum seal them for a later date.
Buy stuff in bulk.
BUT FOR GODS SAKE, DO NOT THROW THEM OUT.

Go in together with a friend or two & purchase a steer and get him butchered, a lot of deer processing plants can do this for you.

I like this guys website, lots of good ideas and no pop-ups and other crap.

We've got a freezer full of meat. That's about as prepped as I'm going to get.
