I'd just like to point out to all of our TDS folks.
No one from an Academy who has ended up pro material showed up to college thinking they were going to be.
They were all basically the equivalent of a guy like Jacob Hester. Dudes who were decent athletes coming out that managed to develop into potential pro-athletes in a manner no one predicted when they were 18.
Academies are never going to be a destination for 4 and 5 star highly recruited kids. But, there will always be those dudes who just end up late bloomers or, for some other reason are completely overlooked when they're 18.
And, frankly, as someone who used to support Army Recruiting command...…….a lot of you people in this thread don't understand that USAREC is as much about marketing the Army as a whole as it is about recruiting individual kids to the Army.
I guarantee you the Army paid more for this than they pay for probably ALL of this year's football team's education. And, ONE kid from Army making the NFL would still be worth more in terms of marketing.

1)You still have to fully qualify academically.
2)You still are expected to incur a service obligation even if deferred
3)Let's face it, not even all 5 star players make the pros...…..which means that signing up for a Service Academy if you have no desire to serve whatsoever would probably be pretty unwise.

But why would anyone conversely denounce merely pushing back the service timeframe?
Just a guess, but I'm going with majority of active service members who would even follow this, football fans and otherwise, fellow branch members, former teammates, etc etc, majority of them proactively root on those service members for whom all the stars align in terms of ability to play in NFL.

I'd like to point out in this thread also that you can actually request early departure from a service obligation if you win the friggin lottery and with pretty rare exception, you'll receive your waiver.

And, basically NO ONE is contemplating the reality that the military can absolutely get benefit from having someone who ends up a successful pro.
As I pointed out earlier. The friggin Army spend TONS of money to sponsor a fricking car in NASCAR for Chrissakes. And, make no mistake, having an NFL starter beats having your name plastered on a fricking car.
