Doesn’t this ruin the service above self mantra we hear about this game?
They’re not being released from their obligation.
They’re being allowed to defer their service.

The president also visited both locker rooms prior to kickoff, signing an executive order allowing athletes at the nation’s military academies to play professional sports after they graduate, and delay their active-duty service.

I don’t know why people are mad about this. There may be one or two players from the service academies who would get drafted each year.
It definitely removes the hardship a star athlete would face, post-academy, who would otherwise receive an appointment. That number would conceivably increase.

Trump is an amazing pragmatic President.
Imagine trying to be upset about this.

What good is a 32-year-old with bum knees? I guess they could push paper and collect that sweeter pension.

Plus the average NFL career is 3 years. You could always go back to active duty afterward.

With a good enough career they may be great recruiters.

I’m sorry that someone would have the temerity to ask applicable questions of our infallible military and president.

Who singled you out?
Sounds like you just want to argue.

It is going to be interesting to serve post professional career.
“I don’t give a damn what you were doing last year LT, your still on staff duty this weekend”

This is where the petty filth always pivot when called on it. Congrats on being a cliche.

I am? So you think nothing would really change about the aura of playing at a service academy.
That begs the question... Why do this (other than appealing to those who are wrapped up in military worship)?
What do you think it will do for morale if the team knows the star players won’t have to give up their prime years and have a cush post-NFL career job waiting with another pension (and medical treatment for their bum knees and CTE at taxpayer expense, to boot)?

Bunch of TDS weirdos in this thread that will literally poo poo ANYTHING Trump does.
Sad, angry little weirdos.
There have been three Naval Academy players drafted in the last 20 years.
Two Westpoint players have been drafted in the last 25 years.
Two Airforce Academy players have been drafted in the last 20 years.
That’s 7 kids total in last quarter century and the little trolls have their back up. Pathetic little fricks.

So this is a completely empty gesture? Pure pandering?

How will their football injuries integrate with the service's physical standards?
Will Tricare cover their football-busted knees for the rest for their lives?

pursue professional football careers (like other collegiate players) without having to fulfill their service obligation before doing so.
Never given this any thought - but it doesn't seem right to me. Do not understand this = service academy first obligation should be to their commitment. In FULL.

You are a piece of work.
You are literally taking both sides of the issue.
You were pearl clutching about it through the thread and when given some context by me, on a dime you are against it for a completely different reason.
Poor fella.
