This would accomplish that

My industry for example gets a 25% tariff applied when shipping to Germany

But until Trumps new reciprocal tariffs last week, we had no similar tariffs on the same products being sent here from Germany

I hope any deal includes cars as well. Europe is not really stealing American manufacturing like Asia is. This is just cherry on top

Tariffs bad

I don't think you'll find a quote from me, but feel free to link me saying "tariffs bad"

This has always been the highest floor, lowest ceiling option of the 4 options.

The major downside is what happens when we lose advantages/leverages in specific sectors in the future, but Trump won't have to deal with that so it's not a risk for him. That's still the lowest cost option for Americans, as well.

But, I wonder how much of this is really a wink and a nod because they know US won't simply accept actual reciprocal tariffs being 0 going both ways. And this isn't my argument exclusively, as other MAGA-adjacent posters ITT have made that very argument.

VAT would have to be in play as well for US to accept

Doesn't VAT occur on their own good also? If so then it shouldn't matter. Are we going to include sales tax?

This deal should not acceptable unless they remove bans On products they currently ban or over regulate like another poster mentioned.

The VAT tax is the issue with Europe.

They have to remove the VAT tax as well.

So leave EU protectionist barriers in place, leave the EU VAT import tax in place, etc.? Europe is always ready for a good deal

I think it's paramount that the United States negotiate with individual countries and simply dismiss the European Union.

Honestly, I think that dismissal should be public and matter of fact.
