I see it diifferently. The MAGA base loves Trump and doesn't like the GOP. Those Republican candidates who come close to acting, voting, and supporting the MAGA movement get the turnout. The other GOP candidates need Trump to get elected because the GOP is milk toast.

Post-Trump GOP is an interesting unknown. Anyone forecasting doom forgets than neither party is well liked. So you can often win an election off a particularly bad performance in control by your opponent that demotivates the opponent’s base.
However, the GOP’s bullpen is weak. Democrats are no better and arguably worse since their old guard has mostly suffocated their next wave out of leadership and prestige positions.
