Highlight: @readdanwrite asks @drewbrees what the star NFL quarterback thinks about "players kneeling again when the NFL season starts." @drewbrees: “I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”

In full context, he was simply asked if he agreed with kneeling for the flag and said no he didn't. He did not comment on the current events.

The twitter mob is going after him HARD. It is getting really, really bad. His own WR Mike Thomas is going after him.

Drew’s only sticking around for one final season. I’m sure he could give a frick after what happened with all the Bible business a year or two back.

That's interesting. You think Thomas puts up those numbers and makes bank if Brees isn't the one throwing him the ball?

Damn

The nfl will force him to apologize and beg for forgiveness or he will be forced to retire.

I’ll say this, the guy has convictions. Slamming your HOF QB on social media does take some balls. Or stupidity. Maybe both.

I love how we've gotten to the point where "injustice" and a "systemically racist police force" are simply foregone conclusions now.

Floyd's anecdotal death is "proof" that this happens every single day and if you have the audacity to argue otherwise you will be destroyed.

Madness

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Brees has "F-you" money and "F-you" clout in New Orleans. He even has "F-you" clout on his own team. Thomas can not like it, but Brees is the single BIGGEST reason he just got paid. And with this (likely) being Brees's last ride he has no reason to worry about the future.

The "twitter mob" represents a small (albeit vocal) subset of losers. Brees didn't say anything controversial and his business interest aren't cutting ties with him because of it. He holds the ultimate leverage in this situation and apologizing does NOTHING to placate these losers...who will be on to the next outrage within a few days.

Clout? Yes.

Money? Maybe not.

All that fake jewelry business tells me that he may not be particularly solvent if he made bad investments.

Didn’t he sign a contract with one of the broadcasters to work with them when he retires after the 2020 season? He better hope there is no language letting them weasel out.
