I believe Sarah Palin referred to this as “death panels” and got yelled at despite being completely right.

There was a a political party back in the day that pushed the killing of the mentally ill. Can’t quite remember who…

Definitely on the left.

Doubtful. They did “say that” according to her, but I’m thinking it was probably more along the lines of, there is no cure to BPD or autism (because there isn’t). You can manage symptoms, but curing BPD is impossible. As far as I know, there’s no cure to any personality disorder.

I’m not referring to you teke, but I’m surprised at how many people in here have such a “baw” mentality over someone else’s mental health. “Rub some dirt on it.” She’s clearly wanting to check out, you don’t know what she’s going through. Pro-lifers hate it when women say “my body my choice”, which is true, but that’s also the baby’s body and not only the woman’s which is the fuzzy part. This one is the woman’s and only the woman’s. It’s 100% up to her. For god’s sake there’s a dude in here who says she should just fast for 7 days. Gimme a break.

More likely, the Dutch don’t want to pop for different antidepressants which are more expensive so they would rather euthanize her.

She is not the first person with BPD and depression that the Dutch have treated. As I said that kind of combination is nearly impossible to treat and requires massive work on the part of the patient’s to just MANAGE symptoms. Some people just have different levels of tolerance when it comes to what they’re willing to deal with. Not everyone loves life as much as you guys do and feels this “obligation” to live in misery no matter how bad it gets. She’s European and probably not religious. She wants out.

If I saw a dude with ALS wanting to be euthanized I wouldn’t blame him.

Yes, The Left says that we are over populated. People got to go at a faster rate. The Left is not looking to make people who are not self-sustainable live longer.

I read something recently about the surge in mental health issues the past few decades. Essentially in the past 20 to 25 years we as a society have really pushed the importance of mental health where’s in the past people just dealt with it and kept going about their lives. The unintended consequence of this push is that by essentially conditioning people to focus on it, they tend to ruminate on their problems. They think about it, they talk about it, they plan their lives around it. Ultimately it consumes them and as they pour more and more energy into their problems they lose the drive and energy it takes to function on a daily basis.

Not discounting people suffering but there is healing in being active and working towards goals. It’s much healthier to be out there living and accomplishing things than sitting around hyper focused on all the negative aspects of your life.

She sounds like a dumbass. I don't care if dumbasses kill themselves.

The terrible part is the psychiatrist pushing euthanasia for depression. He should be killed too.

BUT...that's what you get with socialized medicine.

I’ve worked overseas quite a bit. Mostly in Scandinavia. They pay out the arse in taxes for it, but the claim that socialized medicine isn’t good is wrong. I had to extend a work trip in Denmark for a month, and needed medication, my US doctor couldn’t prescribe it abroad. I asked a Danish friend what to do, she texted her doctor (yes, texted) and the doctor saw me the next day, less than 24 hours later, I showed her my prescription, she wrote out a new one, and by the time I walked across the street to the pharmacy the medication was ready, and I paid $15. This medication would’ve cost me $500 without insurance and I would’ve had to wait at least a day for them to fill it. It was infinitely easier than getting it in the US, and that’s WITH my PCP, health insurance, and citizenship.

I have no interest in paying their 61% income tax, 25% sales tax and 200% car tax, but socialized medicine over there is not the disaster that people paint it out to be.

The depression does change things more than autism, but, while I think they should be permitted to kill themselves, I do think it's a somewhat weak justification.

For the non religious in this thread, why do you believe they need justification to kill themselves? We are just meat puppets floating on a random rock in space.
