Do you think it's right for Law Enforcement to have Unmarked Cars?

I think it's something that gets more and more iffy every year. It used to be cops would be in unmarked cars but it was still somewhat clear they were cops. You always knew to be leery around Chargers and Camaros.
But now they use Tahoe's and a variety of SUV's. Here in Florida, it's getting ridiculous. They are now using big rig haulers in some areas as well as regular mini-vans. Essentially cars you would never suspect.
I fully support law enforcement, and I understand policy using them for undercover operations, surveillance or other specialized police operations. With that said, it should stop there. I do not believe it should be legal for unmarked cars to be used for routine traffic stops unless there has been a felony violation.
With that way our society is, there's simply too much risk that it's someone who is going to carjack me or pull a gun on me. Do law enforcement agencies not get how easy it is to go online and buy police lights and sirens and a makeshift police outfit? If someone wanted to, they could easily impersonate a police officer.
To me it puts the public at a major risk. When on traffic duty, a law enforcement officer should be clearly identified, including their car.
I know for me, I've luckily never been pulled over by one. But if I was, I would put on my emergency flashers (to indicate I'm cooperating), pull over in a well lighted area and hopefully high traffic area and immediately call 911 to ask the dispatcher to confirm whether an official police officer is attempting to stop a vehicle at my exact location. I am not unlocking my doors or opening my windows until they verify the police officer.
Of course I know that means I'll have 0% chance of getting off with just a warning, that I'm guaranteed to be getting a ticket, even if maybe the officer at first was just considering a warning. But that also shouldn't be the case, because people have the right to ensure their safety.
But I just don't think it's right to use unmarked cars for basic traffic enforcement and I have a big problem with the lengths they are going. There's now even unmarked cars that are used 10 - 15 year old cars, again just to catch people off guard. Thoughts?

The only people who fear unmarked cars....are criminals. The law can use the tactics necessary to catch bad guys, period!

I support law enforcement. That doesn't mean I think they're above criticism and appropriate oversight.
I think most police officers are good people. I think there's though 10-20% of officers that are on power trips and make the job of the other 80-90% of officers far harder than it should be.
I bring this up as I was just coming home and saw an officer pulling over an individual. This officer was in what looked to be about a 10 year old Toyota Camry.
If the lights were flashing, there was absolute nothing that would even have remotely indicated it was an unmarked police car. And again, how much would it cost for someone to buy black market or low budget flashing lights that look like police lights?
I just really don't like it.

How about we come over and search your home tonight? I mean if you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to hide right? What's a little bit of government trampling on your rights.
Let me be very clear and very honest. I have no criminal record. My only infractions are one speeding ticket (in a town that is known for handing out speeding tickets like candy) and one ticket for a rolling stop. The one ticket for a rolling stop, I was in a town I wasn't familiar with and the stop sign was not clearly visible. I was kind of lost and accidentally rolled through the stop sign right in front of an officer.
I am a law abiding citizen. I have nothing to hide. But yes I fear unmarked police cars. At the end of the day, how do I know it's a legitimate police officer? How do I know I'm not about to be carjacked and/or robbed? How do I know I'm not going to be shot?

Only certain units and I think that unmarked vehicles shouldn't be able to pull over civilians for misdemeanor traffic citations.

I agree with this as well. Outside of certain SWAT situations for mass riots, full auto weapons and armored vehicles should never be used by police.
Stuff like this makes me understand why so many people don't trust police. Police used to be like your friendly next door neighbor, even as late as the 60, 70s and maybe 80s. Now though, police are stocked up like they are in the military.
To me that's a big problem, police have become less about law enforcement and helping the community, and more about being quasi-military at this point.
Again it makes the job of police officers harder as people aren't going to trust someone who is armed to the teeth.

They shouldn't be using unmarked vehicles for routine traffic stops. If they are, you're supposed to ask they call in a patrol vehicle before engaging with them. That or call 911 and tell them what is going on. If they're using unmarked vehicles for radar trapping that to me is OK as long as marked patrol cars are detaining and issuing the tickets. Police been doing that for my 50 years of driving experience.

Well there dumplin, bring ure azz on to East, Southeast Oklahoma. You
will change your mind in a hummin birds heartbeat. Ya see, we have this
drug war going on here. Has been for about three years now since the pot
heads legalized med pot. The chinamen moved in and the Mesicans was
was already here and the local dope growers took offence. Due to all that
a large amount of nefarious activity has took place. Good folks have been
accosted by unmarked trucks with light bars that had a mex or laotion
behind the wheel playing the po po thinking they were stopping there
adversaries due to the make and color of vehicle .
Now, folks here are on edge out in the country on section line roads.
Unmarked law ought not to make direct traffic stops, playing their power
trips. Before you scoff and say fake news, look up Elohim City. I'm 27 mile
Southeast of there if you take off walkin thru the woods. Give you an idea
of how lawless this area is and the dangers of unmarked cars at night in
the bottom of a deep azz canyon with no cell service.

Settle down. It’s been common guidance for decades that if an unmarked car is following you with police lights on, it is ok to put your hazard lights on as an acknowledgment and call 911. Identify yourself and the circumstances. Advise that you plan to continue driving to a safe location until a vehicle with police markings shows up…or if the 911 operator can confirm that at an actual police vehicle is requesting you to pull over. Stay on the line until your request is met.
It’s the smart thing to do. Cops in unmarked cars are trained to expect that. If they attempt a pit maneuver, get ready to become rich. Every attorney will LOVE to represent you. No need to settle for Gordon, Dudley, Morris, or even the Texas Hammer.
