You should follow the law whether you think the car next to you is a cop or not. In fact, I'd say its safest to live your life as if every car is an unmarked cop car.

But I just don't think it's right to use unmarked cars for basic traffic enforcement and I have a big problem with the lengths they are going.
Agree

If pulled over by an unmarked I highly suggest you do exactly what you described.
As far as a warning or ticket, LE is slowly trending towards always issuing the citation. Too many times defense attorneys are using a cops record of warning vs citation against them. You can imagine the statistical difference if only those with bad attitudes got tickets and those that kept it courteous getting warnings.

Yes, of course. Should we always advertise the presence of the police so that criminals will know when it’s safe to commit crimes?

I do not believe it should be legal for unmarked cars to be used for routine traffic stops unless there has been a felony violation.
Well, that is your actual question, and it’s a reasonable one. I agree with you.

i remember driving on the IH10 bridge between lafayette and baton rouge. there was an old chevy impala stationwagon parked on the side. when i passed by, i saw the louisiana state police marking on the side. it was marked but never suspected LHP running traffic in an old beater stationwagon.

We have unmarked cars, flock cameras, and many other security systems because WE HAVE A LOT OF SHITTY PEOPLE.

If you aren’t doing anything wrong you have nothing to fear
That goes double for you inspection sticker criminals that are trying to make it to work on time

Yes. And the primary weapon for LEO self defense should be the street sweeper.

It's what it is. They come in handy when approaching people who have warrants and it's guaranteed they are gonna flee.
Not a fan of them when they do traffic stops.

Instead of whining about cops, point out where LE is being done properly.

To catch criminals when they don't think the police are around.
Duh!

You think that is what unmarked trooper cars are doing on the median of I-80?
You watch too much TV. These "unmarked" cars were always used by detectives. They come only after a crime has been committed. They were never used for people not using a turn signal until recently.

The law can use the tactics necessary to catch bad guys, period!
I don’t really have a problem with unmarked cars but this statement is awful. I don’t want to live in a police state.
Then again, I like being an American so maybe that’s the difference.
