Its interesting how now almost everyone admits that the war was a mistake. Lots of republicans say it was mistake minus some pro war republicans. but pretty much both parties supported the war during the beginning. So I have a hard time saying bush lied about it. But what was the reasoning for the war at the time?

No, I think he was lied to about it and he just delivered the information he was told.

When I say he was lied to about it, I fully believe Iraq was doing everything they could to obtain WOMD, but they didn’t have them as the intelligence community claimed

Do you remember who testified in front of Congress, to gain approval for going to war on that premise? None other than.. Mr. Robert Mueller.

I find that this board likes the idea of a Deep State lying, tricking, deceiving our unknowing Republican presidents thus absolving said president of their stupidity. The Deep State lied to Bush about the WOMDs to keep the war machine going. The Deep State lied to Trump about the Corona Virus. Rinse, repeat.

I think the neo-cons in his administration misled him.

1. WMD’s were found, and not just the stockpiles we had given him to fight the Iranians. The media lied about there being no WMD’s in Iraq.

2. The amount of WMD’s and extend of Saddam’s capabilities were both grossly oversold by our intelligence agencies.

3. I would venture a guess that Bush was lied to rather than was lying personally. GW seemed like a well-meaning baw that was a pawn of a lot of folks with bad intentions.

Yes. George W Bush was just as destructive to this country as Obama was. Hardly any difference in the two. The Bush family are a bunch of Globalist cucks.

I'm fairly certain the intelligence communities of multiple nations, led by ours here in the United States, failed the western world in regards to Iraq. And while many of us probably believe the reasons for this failure were nefarious, I personally don't hold to such a view. Having worked within the IC for the last eight years, I can confidently say that gross incompetence and the misreading of intelligence (most likely) led to what happened in 2003. People need to understand that our best and brightest don't go into government employment. It's less like House of Cards and more like Veep.

I mean, it's pretty obvious the deep state is a thing. W is part of it though.

Yes, I believed Bush and the IC lied about wmd.

I believe the reasons were to gain a sizable footprint in the ME in terms of troops on the ground, influence, intelligence reach and contacts. I think the IC wanted that and Bush & Cheney did as well. I also think the MIC and all their politicians saw the massive opportunity to personally enrich themselves with a super flowing gravy train of taxpayer money and bribes and kickbacks. I also think Bush wanted to get Saddam for trying to kill his daddy in the late 90s.

All acquired on the backs of dead American soldiers and Iraqi citizens.

This. The propaganda against Iraq started when they entered office, was interrupted by 9/11, then the recycled the same stories in the same order to go after Iraq.

Stories like Michael Stryker being a prisoner, aluminum cylinders, etc. Then they added the buried Chem labs, which I found to be pretty ridiculous.
