I was younger during this but I remember hearing Saddam violated his treaty that stipulated his must allow UN inspectors do what was stated in the treaty and he refused. I think I remember 40 or so violations of treaties that was the reason behind the thought he had WOMD.
Even if not true.:he was evil. Not mad he is gone from this World.

In the 90's we only knew traditional warfare. Sniping terrorists in the desert mountains amid droves of innocents wasn't exactly how our boys were trained. They needed a front, and they knew the presence of US military anywhere in the ME would draw the enemy in like flies to honey. It was an excuse to take the fight away from the streets of New York and unseat a dictator in one fell swoop. I believe Blair, GWB, etc. were intentionally mislead by the political layer that separated them from the rank and file IC. The Saddam angle had to be an easy sell for Bush.

Maybe not knowingly.
But that doesn't excuse him for not asking enough questions and for being naive about the power vacuum that would be left in Iraq when he advocated for war there.
Anyone with half a brain knew it was a bad idea to go into Iraq and knew that the power vacuum would be filled with violent terrorists and warlords jockeying for position. Anyone with half a brain also knows that Middle Eastern culture is not conducive to democracy and it requires a strong man or an oligarchy to rule those countries.
But the War Machine has to eat and make profits. And so WOMD was the reason.

If he didn't know, it was only because the real presidents Daddy-Bush Sr. and CHeney didn't think he was smart enough to be read-in on the details. The invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq was planned long before 9/11....it just couldn't happen without a "catalyzing event such as new Pearl Harbor" to gain the support of the people. (quote from the PNAC document on how we should take over the Middle East)

Dems, Republicans and the UN all thought Saddam had WMDs. After all, he did gas the Kurds killing 5,000 to proving he had nerve gas and his willingness to use it.

I don't think it was a mistake. I think it was the US Intel community engineering a war with fake intel.
We need fire everyone in the all '17' intelligence agencies and have them all attempt to get through a real interview process. And most of them should just be abolished, period.
As should pretty much all the top brass at the pentagon. It's time for a do over for America.
Destroy the bureaucracy. Pull it out by the roots. All of it. Start over.

His administration lied about the intelligence because they were so certain the WMD were there. They were certain the lie wouldn’t matter because once we got in there we’d find more than enough and the lie wouldn’t matter. That being said bush’s jokes about looking for wmd at the 2004 correspondents dinner was very bad form, completely tin-eared, tasteless.

Technically U.N. 1441 said missiles that could travel over 100 miles were WMD and those were found.

Just like us a politicians job is to make money for their families
The politician gets paid by government very little
They make most all their money from what we’d call bribery and inside stock information and the sort
They get away with it because if they shined light on one then light would have to shine on all and they’d stop cold the money train for their families
Bush is at top of food chain for politicians. He did whatever he knew would make him most money! He’s what we’d call a filthy dirty politician that belongs in jail, if we knew truth of his financial dealings
I bet 9-11 was Bush’s bigger money maker and to this day he makes money on that scam he knows everything about
I pray in my life we learn the truth of those involved in 9-11 scam and they suffer full consequences and Bush is at top of that list of politicians too!
