I’m 44 years old and I didn’t start getting into NASCAR until about 5 years ago.
But I grew up watching ESPN so I already knew who all the good drivers were from the 90s.
Now I don’t really have a favorite driver. And I have no manufacturer loyalty. I kind of have a group that I pull for. The ones I generally pull for are Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin.

Joe Shear for pavement. First nationally known dirt driver was Jeff Purvis.

Freddy Fryar . I was about 13. Do you remember him? I bet not. He raced at the teamster’s owned race track on the border of the parish. The track where the “New Orlean’s Pop Festival’ was held. Probably too young to remember that as well. It’s not there anymore.
I’m old now, but still have NASCAR friends who raced, Terry Cook and Josh Wise. Acquaintances with Brad and Brian Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Michael McDowell, Trevor Bayne and several others.
I Hosted Micheal McDowell, Josh Wise and Trevor Bayne to watch the truck race the next season after Trevor’s Daytona 500 win at my RV on the super stretch at Talladega. Good times.
But since Bubba Wallace claimed racism because he had a noose in his garage I’m no longer a fan or sponsor.
I had a hard card. I had had access where-ever I wanted to go. I have been in Talladega’s garages for 10 years. They all have the pull handle for the garage doors. Bubba ruined the sport for me and as well Richard Petty who swallowed the hook.

My mother and family were from Hueytown, so it was the Alabama Gang. We weren’t really into racing though.

Wasn’t into racing, but names I remember from my grammar school years: Foyt, Unser, Andretti, Sneva. I guess I liked Jackie Stewart because of the Ford commercials.
