You shouldn’t. But if you can’t prove who you are, then you don’t get to vote, either.

Nor an EBT card, nor a check of any kind from the stae, local, or FedGov, after all, can't prove it's their check!

I was in a fishing store the other day and someone was trying to renew their license. They didn't have an ID, nor did they know their ss#. I looked at the employee and he didn't act surprised at all.

And why does this matter?

because the idea that "your name and the last 4 digits of your social security number" will do when so much fraud abounds is ludicrous on the face of it

I don't know why I bother

It could easily be kinda like how you can chose closed caption languages on cable TV...

Then donate your money to make that happen. What are the chances that a US citizen who doesn't read English can read and understand a constitutional amendment in any language?

E.g.

Georgia voters will decide in November on initiatives to ensure victims are notified about their court cases and to set aside tax money for green space preservation.

Those proposed amendments to the Georgia Constitution will appear on the ballot after they passed the General Assembly during the 2018 legislative session, which ended last week.

quote:

MARSY’S LAW: A MODEL STATE CONSTITUTIONAL
AMENDMENT TO AFFORD VICTIMS MEANINGFUL RIGHTS
A. To preserve and protect for victims justice and due process throughout
the criminal and juvenile justice systems, a victim shall have the following
rights which shall be protected in a manner no less vigorous than the rights
afforded to the accused; to be treated with fairness and respect for the victim’s
safety, dignity, and privacy; upon request, to reasonable and timely notice of
and to be present at all public proceedings involving the criminal or delinquent
conduct; to be heard in any public proceeding involving release, plea,
sentencing, disposition, parole, and any public proceeding during which a right
of the victim is implicated; to reasonable protection from the accused or any
person acting on behalf of the accused; upon request, to reasonable notice of
any release or escape of an accused; to refuse an interview, deposition, or other
discovery request made by the accused or any person acting on behalf of the
accused; to full and timely restitution; to proceedings free from unreasonable
delay and a prompt conclusion of the case; upon request, to confer with the
attorney for the government; and to be informed of all rights enumerated in
this section.
B. The victim, the victim’s attorney or other lawful representative, or the
attorney for the government upon request of the victim may assert in any trial
or appellate court, or before any other authority, with jurisdiction over the case,
and have enforced, the rights enumerated in this section and any other right
afforded to the victim by law. The court or other authority with jurisdiction
shall act promptly on such a request. This section does not create any cause of
action for compensation or damages against the State, any politicalsubdivision
of the State, any officer, employee, or agent of the State or of any of its political
subdivisions, or any officer or employee of the court.
C. As used in this section, a “victim” includes any person against whom
the criminal offense or delinquent act is committed or who is directly and
proximately harmed by the commission of the offense or act. The term
“victim” does not include the accused or a person whom the court finds would
not act in the best interests of a deceased, incompetent, minor, or incapacitated
victim.

Why would anyone want any such people deciding who your elected representatives are?

Try 15%.

The incidents underscore a key fact about modern American society: As of 2016, 35 million U.S. citizens over the age of 18, or more than 15 percent of the adult population, speak a language other than English at home, according to the U.S. census.

That does not indicate they can’t read / speak English. Only that they speak another language at home. I have a Vietnamese friend who speaks English quite well. But, often converses otherwise with his family.

That says nothing about NOT speaking English at all. Can you not reading comprehension?

Hispanics are like billiard balls: the harder you hit them - the more English you get out of them!

Your reference doesn't say those people can't speak English. I know a lot of people who speak a language other than English at home. I don't know anybody who doesn't speak English. I'm referring to US citizens.

You don't if all you want to do is exist.

Now if you want access to certain goods and services like banking, flying, voting, liquor, cigarettes, welfare, etc., then you must have one.

Exactly. You do not have to have a passport. But, if you want to travel abroad and re-enter the country - you need it.

Here is a list off of the top of my head of things that you can't do if you don't have a photo ID

Drive a car
Go to college
Apply for a job
Board a plane
Open a bank account
Stay in a hotel room
Rent an apartment or house (or even apply for public housing)
Buy a house
Apply for unemployment benefits
Buy a gun
Buy a hunting/fishing license
Sell something at a pawn shop
Buy prescription drugs
Apply for government benefits including food stamps

So it might beg the question. If you're an adult without a photo ID exactly what the frick are you doing?
