See how that strategy works out for them.

To be fair, this idea of the USA acquiring Greenland is not new. This has been discussed at points in history for 100 years. Trump didn't just pull this out of nowhere. This has been a strategic discussion for a century.
Look up some history.
Look up some history.

Can you explain to me what history you read about acquiring Greenland in the 1920s that applies to the geopolitical situation we have now? Genuinely curious, because I don’t see how that point even remotely matters.

So you’re saying we no longer benefit? Souring US ties with the entirety of Europe would have no negative effects? No consequences?
Preach. We’re stronger by having Europe as allies. Largest trading partner, historical ties… they supported us in blood after 9/11.
Squandering that for what? So we can feel tough in our own neck of the woods? We already are that dude.
Who benefits from us making this play? Is it ego/legacy? Russia/China with the so-called spheres of influence?
This shite has a good chance to backfire if we overplay our hand. Doesn’t mean we’ll lose a world war (at least at first), but the outcomes don’t justify the risk.
Yeah we make Maduro look like a bitch; that was good. But talking about stealing the country’s resources as if they are ours? fricking with talk about invading an allies territory that will trigger Article 5?
We need to chill out for a sec and stop acting like the world is ours to consume. We’re acting like a drunk at the bar right now.
Exactly.
And at a time when tensions with China and Russia are high, people on this board want us to provoke a military confrontation with the UK, Germany, Spain, Canada, and all 27 other countries of the alliance? Yeah, the Chinese would love to sit back and watch that.
Here...again...is where Trump's mouth gets him in trouble. Greenland's tensions and disenchantment with Denmark have for a while been ripe for exploitation. Leave the diplomacy to Rubio. He is perfectly capable of warming up the Greenlanders to the idea of increased military bases, more access to raw materials, etc. He's good at that. But when Trump starts shooting off his mouth about just going and taking it and making it ours, all he does is get the locals riled up and frick everything up. Just another self inflicted wound.

An invasion violates the nato alliance.
We subsidize NATO. NATO only exists because of The United States. It’s not sustainable without us. If we were to ‘invade’ Greenland no countries would form an alliance to try and stop us or engage with our military. The europoors would send a bunch of sternly worded letters and make a bunch of ‘tweets’ trying to sound tough it would be all talk no action.

China is already infiltrating.
Denmark is allowing it to occur.
You know, some ex-wives were once faithful allies.

Are home invasions an acceptable method of acquiring property?
All this time I’ve wasted paying money for property at mutually agreeable prices was just a waste of my time?

We're not invading Greenland. Some of y'all need to stop with this fantasy. It wild that some of y'all on here are in favor of invading an allied nation.

Also, is it really under discussion to frggin invade?
A lot of wild-eyed nonsense being thrown around about Greenland.

Could probably take about 25 old boys from down here in Dixie and have that place taken over in no time.

We should do what is in the best interests of America, and not really give any consideration to what Europe wants. We have done that for far too long.
If the Danes (or any other EU nation) wants to take some action, we can close our bases there, withdraw all troops and refuse to sell any weapons to them. No country in Europe has a decent military, because they depend on us.
If Russia withdrew from Ukraine (which has has much more robust military) they could move into Europe without much resistance. And there wouldnt by much that Europe could do to counter it without using nukes.
I am not saying that we should do that, but the national security significance of Greenland makes it very important to us. It does nothing for Denmark. There are fewer Greenlanders than the population of Tuscaloosa. We could offer each one of them $5,000,000. and citizenship in the US, or let them take the money and return to Denmark.

That's kind of blown out of proportion. In recent years Denmark has blocked china's bid to buy a decommissioned naval base and put a halt to china trying to buy an airport in Greenland. Denmark has also pressured Greenland to limit china's involvement in mining development. The Greenlanders themselves are more involved with courting chinese involvement in mining, and that has a whole lot more to do with American private sector companies not having, to this point, shown great interest in putting out the billions of dollars it would take to develop mining interests there.
