This is concerning. For the first time, a Chinese model Kimi K3 has taken #1 on the Frontend Code Arena and is scoring at or near the frontier on other benchmarks.
Meanwhile America is tying itself in knots: politicians and bureaucrats are banning new data centers, piling on state regulations, and pushing for new federal agencies to pre-approve frontier models.
This is how you lose the AI race. The rest of the world won’t play by our rules if we bog ourselves down. Permissionless innovation is how America won the internet and became the technological envy of the world. We can do it again with AI -- while addressing risks in a targeted way -- or we’ll watch our lead evaporate.

Big news: Kimi-K3 by @Kimi_Moonshot is now #1 in the Frontend Code Arena with 1679 pts, surpassing Claude Fable 5.
This is a 17-place jump from Kimi-k2.6 (#18 -> #1).
In Frontend, Kimi-K3 ranked #1 in 6 of 7 domains: Brand & Marketing, Reference-Based Design, Data & Analytics, Consumer Product, Simulations, and Content Creation Tools, landing #2 only in Gaming behind Fable 5.
The full model weights will be released by July 27.
Congrats to the @Kimi_Moonshot team on this major milestone!

The bigger concern is where do humans fit in with the growing power of AI, robotics and automation? When all is said and done is there a better future for humanity or a fricking dystopian artificial reality waiting for humanity in the not too distant future?

Two immediate downvotes from Chinese bots or their useful recruits.

Stop educating foreigners to go back home and support their homeland

People still believe what comes out of China?

Americans are discouraged from getting PhD's culturally.

It's a valid question. The solutions will be determined by countries that win the AI race.

Still need humans to use, operate, fix and run systems

And now the missing context:
Chinese propaganda suckers can't help themselves.

At the moment, every published K3 number is a claim made by Moonshot-reported or drawn from API access and can’t be verified until the weights are made public on July 27. Anthropic accused Moonshot in February of using 3.4 million Claude exchanges to train its models through distillation, and K3 now benchmarks within a few points of the models named in that complaint.
Chinese propaganda suckers can't help themselves.

Used to be, America was the land of opportunity, and once people got educated here, they would never return.

Whoever wins the AI race, I’m not entirely sure humanity will win in the end.

quote:Drafting off of anthropic training. The Chinese did what they do best. They cheated and copied. They created thousands of fake accounts on Claude's consumer or API platforms, then generated millions of prompt-response pairs after feeding Claude various inputs. They collected Claude's outputs as synthetic training data, then used that data to fine-tune or pre-train Kimi, teaching it to emulate Claude's reasoning patterns, tone, and response structure.

What are we supposed to scared of because of this? Chinese AI will take more jobs than American AI?
For the record, I don’t think AI will actually replace humans in the workforce at any meaningful scale, whether it’s Chinese or American.
