Maybe that is why nobody generally sings that verse and why the police requested they stop.
That is one of a few conflicting interpretations. And the US generally dropped the verse because of how much it shite on the British. When we became allies with the British in WWI, it was seen to be in poor taste to sing that verse when US and British soldiers were fighting and dying together to stop the Germans.
