Capital Police stop a children's choir for singing The Star Spangled Banner

Last Friday, the children, all clearly under 13 years old, were doing a beautiful job of singing The Star-Spangled Banner, when the Capitol Police stepped in and stopped them. That’s bad. What’s worse is that they apparently did so by claiming that the song was an illegal protest song:

There has got to be more to this. I can't imagine at least one Republican representative in freaking South Carolina wouldn't be in front of a camera campaigning off of something like this. You could get yourself a month's worth of political donations off of a Fox news appearance defending a bunch of kids that just want to sing the national anthem.

They sang the first and second verses. They were stopped when singing the third verse. In the third verse, Francis Scott Key had a special message for the enslaved people who had dared to fight for freedom "we will pursue you to get revenge: No refuge could save the hireling and slave, from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave."
Maybe that is why nobody generally sings that verse and why the police requested they stop.
