For those who insist on doing this, can we at least agree to stop with the religious persecution of other Christians on this board?

It's not helpful and just further divides. You'd be surprised that politically, we mostly agree on the same things.

Furthermore, you might be surprised that theologically speaking we do agree on most things there as well.

I agree with you.

I also hope we can start to unify to defend the tragic destruction of Christian enclaves and Christians at large in the holy lands.

What happening to some of those churches is absolutely tragic.

If they don't believe the proper sect, they're not really Christian

That's part of some peoples' faith I suppose is 100% correct belief. I can respect that even if I don't agree.

My experience has been that there are not 2 Christians on the face of the Earth who have the same beliefs on even what God completely is.

Anyways, these things are silly imo. There's nothing wrong with having a say about something but ultimately you have to let other Christians believe what they want and leave that up to God.

I'm all for unity in the Christian faith and hope that one day we can achieve it this side of Heaven, for I know we will achieve it in Heaven.

I just wouldn't describe disagreement as "persecution", since all Christians should be examining their beliefs and seeking to always be reforming them, and healthy discussion is great for that.

With that said, we all can be better at how we hold our disagreements, myself included..

Imagine no religion. All the people living life in peace. Nothing to kill or die for. You may say I’m a dreamer. But i’m not the only one.

Thanks for the reminder, John.

Millions have been murdered in the last 100+ years on the back of this ideal.

It denies the sinful human nature that exists in all people.

This board has quickly trended into Sunni vs Shia type tribalism only with different sects of Christianity

Worked great in the Soviet Union. Only 8 figures killed in purges. Plus multiple invasions of neighbors

There is no "healthy discussion" with people who default to, "but magic" when they're presented with evidence that contradicts their world view.

There is plenty of healthy discussion to be had between those of different beliefs and worldviews, but now you're getting away from the interchurch debates expressed by the OP to Christian vs. non-Christian discussions.

I agree that topics that center on Theology do not belong on Tigerdroppings Political Talk.

Theology should be discussed over on the OT. And I would advise that any such Theological conversation over on the OT should focus only on Theology and not on personal conversion stories, or bashing of other people's Theology or personal attacks or insults, etc.

It is possible to have conversations about Theology on the OT without the conversation turning into a personal insult and hate-fest.

The Theological differences between the various religions are worthy of discussion but Political Talk is for Political Talk and not for learning about Theology.

That’s a category error. “Imagine no religion” is not “imagine a totalitarian state murdering people, banning churches, controlling speech, invading neighbors, and running purges.”

The Soviet Union was not simply “people living life in peace without religion.” It was an authoritarian communist state with state power, secret police, forced ideology, political purges, censorship, labor camps, and imperial expansion. Blaming that on the absence of religion is like blaming the Inquisition on the existence of churches and calling the case closed. The point of the lyric is not “atheist government good.” The point is that humans often & frequently kill and die over sacred identities, borders, tribes, and ideologies. Religion can be one of those. So can nationalism. Hello maga ‘christian’ nationalism. So can communism. So can any belief system when it gets fused with absolute power.

And if the argument is “humans are sinful,” then that cuts against your point, not mine. It means religion does not magically solve human nature either. Religious people, atheist people, communist people, capitalist people, monarchs, presidents, priests, and revolutionaries are all capable of brutality when they stop seeing other humans as fully human. (Hello again, maga ‘christian’ nationalists.) So no, the Soviet Union does not refute Lennon’s song. It proves the darker point behind it. when people turn ideology into an idol, bodies pile up.
