GraceLife Church, the Alberta church which made headlines for defying provincial pandemic-related lockdown orders, is being blocked off by police using roadblocks and fencing to prevent worshippers from reaching the building.

The church first made headlines last month after their pastor, James Coates, was jailed for violating lockdown orders on Mar 5. He was held for weeks before his release on Mar 22, but still faces an upcoming trial.

Sources familiar with the situation say that the premises was raided in the early morning.

According to the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, the crime he was jailed for is not punishable by prison time.

“Unless the Justice Centre secures his release from prison prior to trial, Pastor Coates will spend a total of eleven weeks in jail for a provincial infraction that is not punishable by jail time," wrote JCCF president John Carpay.

Despite the legal threats made against Coates, the pastor nevertheless made headlines again by opening the church for Easter services earlier this month.

Coates pled guilty to one charge resulting in a fine of $1,500. However, his time spent in jail may count as credit towards that fine.

Canada...the same govenrment that awarded a terrorist who murdered multiple armed forces members, and admitted to it, with millions of dollars and a get out of jail free card.

Canada is a joke of a country.

Save for the genocide, how is this any different than what China is doing to religious minorities?

Let's tell them or similar US a-holes that a bunch of people are having a church service on the US/Mexico border and maybe they will put up a fence for us!

I am not sure if freedom to practice religion is covered in Canada by their constitution, however bad of a look this is.

If this were to happen in the US there should be serious consequences for public employees violating someone's God given and constitutionally protected rights. However, I am sure that they would get off without any consequences, maybe even worse, courts may not rule in favor of the people with their rights violated.

The Church is wherever the congregation meets. If they can’t get to the building, then the body of the church moves elsewhere. If they block that, move again. They can’t block everything everywhere.

Just purchase a tent and float around spot to spot and only release the location Sunday morning to the members. It will drive the government nuts.

Traditionally, Alberta is the province least likely to put up with this crap. Ontario would fold like a cheap suit, but Albertans are stouter people.

I've worked with a lot of Canadians over the years. The disparity in peoples based off of location is immense. Alberta is not unlike Texas, all things considered. Stand up, Alberta.
