Not directly but its intent is a consequence. This idea has traction because people got to see the insane level of spending these dedicated millages have operated under vs what is needed.”, especially now in a different governmental landscape.

Under the proposed plan, a portion of dedicated taxes from the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System, Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control, and the Council on Aging will be re-dedicated into the general fund. Those re-dedications will result in a one-time infusion of $52.4 million that will be used to pay down debt, immediately putting the parish in a stronger financial position and reducing the burden on future budgets.
This is exactly why I voted for Coach Edwards.

The Library, COA and Rat Patrol have over a combined $45 MILLION in reserve funds just sitting in banks drawing less than 3% interest annually.

My only disappointment in the proposal is that BREC isn't included in the plan to shave a few mills off of their dedicated property millage taxes.

BREC alone has over $75 MILLION sitting in banks based on BREC's latest audited balance sheet from year end 2023, which almost equals their annual operating budget of approximately $90 million.

GO COACH EDWARDS!!!

The library board has a 600 million dollar surplus so if they gave everybody in br a refund check it’d be a million dollars each

We vote no on anything tax related in EBR because no matter how they spin it, it means we are going to pay more.

BREC it’s his concessions to the left. That COA is a shady shady outfit. BREC needs a colonoscopy. But it won’t change because it’s a welfare jobs program.

I do the same. It’s never enough and they never spend it correctly.

Then everyone will vote for libraries because you’re an a-hole if you don’t

Sorry, but I don’t live in EBR Parish, so I’m no help.

When it comes to taxes, I seize every opportunity to be an a-hole. I always vote against new taxes, renewals, and re-allocations, unless it involves first responders, then I’ll give it some thought. The only people who have ever criticized me for this are schoolteachers or spouses of schoolteachers, which tells me I’m doing right.

This guy understands. Being fiscally responsible, trying to take from areas within his own agencies to pay off debt and stabilize a very unstable budget that he inherited, while using what is there and what we are already paying.
I agree Russian, this is why he was voted in.
He’s leaving the three agencies with more tax revenue to operate and continue to prosper.
I’m giving him a chance, frick yea I’m voting yes.

If it were me I would up the mayor's plan exponentially.

I don't know the mayor or any of his staff personally.

Where the hell is that sewer use fee going? Everyone is has been paying since the 1980s a monthly fee that is now about $80 , including all businesses.

Multiply that out for 108,000 single family homes in the parish per month for 40 (forty) years. That is $3 trillion. ( I used $60 per month.) Please check my math, be my guest.

If I was the mayor, i'd have already filed suit against Broome and her ilk to find out where the frick all the money was going all this time.

The fact Sid hasn't already been blaming her for everything makes me worry he might be in a little over his head.

Unless the voters turn it down. I'm all about paying down/off debt so I would rather take the risk by pulling money from bloated systems rather than either continuing to limp along or pulling from budgets which are already tighter than BREC, COA, etc.

Crime is the biggest problem facing EBR and the money the library system doesn’t know how to spend is needed elsewhere. This is common sense.

And common sense...and history...would tell you that the "extra" money will be wasted. None of it will decrease crime.

Thrive my arse.

So you want to punish them for good money management? Or are they poorly managed and simply flush due to tax receipts?

How about we just reduce the amount we pay on our property taxes and they can balance their budget. Anything having to do with the EBR "general fund" is a big fat no from me. This is one reason St. George formed in the first place.

And doesn't the sewer fee on our water bill pay for drainage? That is a ton of money each year for them. I would like to see their expenditures.
