Yup it's just going to enable more shootings.

Saw one on a video yesterday who shot a guy at point blank range then robbed him on camera. When he realized he’d been caught on video the first words out of his mouth were “that man was racist to me.”

Do you honestly think assailants consider the amount of their potential bail before they decide to shoot someone?

The problem is with the judge, not the lawyer. It's the lawyer's job to give his client the best possible defense, so I don't really blame him. I blame the judge who fell for this bullshite

No... it's become a given that urban crime goes largely unpunished. As evidenced by his prior record and still on the streets and up to shenanigans.

Cost of bail might discourage some, a very few... but high bail will certainly keep the communities safer.

I can't wait to retire and move out of the city to a place with better lighting.

His bail was reduced to $1 million. He isn't going anywhere.

Lawyer should be disbarred.

Young black males don’t deserve the presumption of innocence when statistically they commit a disproportionate amount of crime.

Don’t get mad at me. The data doesn’t lie.

Don't blame him. Just doing his job. But the fact he knew he could argue that, & the judge went along with it, is the problem.

More details...

quote:

Prosecutors objected to any reduction in bail, citing concerns for the safety of the community if he were released ahead of trial. “It is certainly to the defendant’s credit that he has such strong social supports, but respectfully, an individual can be a strong athlete and still be capable of the sorts of allegations that are in play here,” Deputy Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney Lena Berberich-Erebout said in court Monday.

The state is concerned not just about the nature of the allegations, but specifically the allegation that this involved a firearm when (Williams) was just convicted of possessing a firearm a year ago. Respectfully, the state does not believe that bail should not be reduced.” The firearms conviction Berberich-Erebout referenced involves Williams' arrest in September 2023 when he was found with a stolen gun while going through a security screening station at the Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center in Seattle. A Seattle police report indicated the gun Williams had in his backpack was stolen from a gun dealer in Monroe.

This kid tried to smuggle a stolen gun through a Family and Children Justice center... did it in September 2023, convicted February 2024.

I am so tired of 'common sense gun control' arguments when kids like this get no real time or deterrence for smuggling stolen guns into child and youth centered courthouses.

No, hilariously low bail allows more people charged with violent gun crimes means to return to the streets. Where we see time and time again that they commit even more crime. Nobody is arguing bail is supposed to be some sort of deterrent mechanism.

Any teenager with previous charges related to firearms, who then kills two people with a firearm, should sit in jail while they await trial. It’s clearly a community safety issue.
