over the same time last year.
“There are going to be a lot of unhappy people over the next month,” Edward Karl of the American Institute of CPAs told Politico. “Taxpayers want a large refund.” Some 71 percent of taxpayers received refunds last year worth about $3,000 on average, according to Karl.

But the corporations and billionaires got theirs.

because their withholdings from their paychecks are down too. They're getting their money back in every paycheck, so their refunds are lower.

Getting a big tax refund is actually a bad thing.
If you're too stupid to understand that, your opinion on tax policy is irrelevant.

I mean, we've all known the deductions for local and state taxes were gone for over a year.
If anyone is bitching about this they haven't been paying attention.

I'm all for tax cuts for the middle class and taxing the frick out of the ultra wealthy....
But refunds being down just means that people's checks were likely larger and they didn't notice.

This shite is getting stupid. Lots of people are going to be “upset” because of some fake outrage based on this inherent belief that your tax refund amount equals your overall tax liability.
With the cleaner method for taking the standard deduction vs itemized as before, withholding is actually going to be more accurate for most people. Meaning the government will be taking out less money per check that is overkill, thus reducing your refund. You are paying less taxes but just giving less up front to the government to return to you later.

Do you not understand why refunds are not a good thing?

Sadly we're surrounded by idiots. Look at the Green New Deal and its sycophants for proof.

Dude...you picked the wrong place to link a story from the Huffington Post. People here know how the game is played.

If the electorate is as intellectually challenged as the OP, AOC may well be a comparative financial genius.

Every refund I’ve done so far has resulted in people paying less taxes on more income. I’ll admit it’s a small sample so early in tax season but this has been a consistent trend. 50/50 have been larger refunds.

Yes.
The entire tax system is designed around ignorance.
Imagine the outrage if instead of having a small amount tax from every check, that once a year the government sent you a bill for your entire tax liability at once.
People would be rioting in the street.
If you ask a large group of people "how much did you pay in taxes last year?" there will be those who say 'oh I got money back!" or something like that.
