Several Giants players responded to Pride Night on Friday by writing Bible verses on their caps. Landen Roupp started the game with “Gen 9:12-16” scrawled on it, the end of the verse bleeding into the actual SF part of the hat. JT Brubaker included “Gen 9:13-15” as one of the largest on-cap messages I’ve ever seen, and Ryan Walker returned from the minors with a smaller version on the side of his hat. Sam Hentges refused to wear the Pride Night hat at all, opting for the Giants’ standard black cap with orange letters.
Landen Roupp had Genesis 9:12-16 written on his pride hat tonight.
"It's just about God's covenant and a promise that he makes to us."
quote:
Like Dewey’s ribbon “protest” years ago, this was another tone-deaf response to what should have been a moment for community unity. They made the night about “us versus them.” That’s the only thing they could see.
quote:
Pride Night is about support and lifting human beings. Making it about something else — yourself, say, or the idea that some people aren’t as worthy of recognition or support — shows how little some people actually care about a message of love.
quote:
After the game, Roupp told reporters, “I’m thankful we live in a country where, you know, we have the freedom to believe what we want … and express what we want.” I’m also thankful for this, and I’m using that same freedom to suggest that he’s only scratching the surface of what he’s purporting to believe in. Dig deeper, my dude. Dig a lot deeper. There’s a way to help people navigate this life with the respect and grace they deserve. It is a choice to ignore that on a night dedicated to people who need others on their side. Do better. That’s the only thing we’re all supposed to do around here, anyway. Do better.

I thought The Athletic was supposed to be serious sports journalism?

It's owned by the New York Times.

but....but.... they said all they want is to be accepted???
NO, they want a great deal more than simple acceptance and tolerance ... you must embrace and celebrate their delusional deviance. Commi-leftists are the most IN-tolerant people in the world yet they preach "tolerance"

No it's about perversion being pushed into the faces and schools of those who don't want it.
We are not sorry for fighting back.
This has gone too far.

It sounds like the Atlantic wants players to wear Gold Stars, I mean, tranny flags.

It’s only inclusive if you bend the knee to the abnormal.
Where is the inclusivity for a a different viewpoint.
Naaaah…that’s hate. Hahahahha
Agree and support deviant dick placement or they scream and throw a tantrum.
Equal treatment feels unfair when you’ve been coddled and pandered.

To work for these media publications, you are required to be a raging leftist. They don't hire conservatives. They deep down love it when Christians make a stand like this so they can write stories condemning them to show how woke they are & help their media credentials.

Good for them. A couple of LA Dodger players were also upset because some bizarre trio of "guys" who dress up like nuns were invited to take part in LA's pride night. (I don't know if those guys are just cross-dressers, or trannies, or what they are).
This isn't about bigotry. It's about the realization that sexual orientation or gender identification have nothing to do with baseball. This is just about pushing an agenda.
Hell, they don't have "Straight Night" as well they shouldn't. Just play baseball.

I'm trying to figure out why this is a bad thing.

"us vs them"
It's ironic.
It's ironic.

So… inclusive of everything that agrees with you?
True inclusion was always a lie.

bigot:
a narrow-minded person who obstinately adheres to their own opinions and prejudices
especially, one who strongly and unfairly dislikes or feels hatred toward others based on their group membership
I love reminding them of this when they call us bigots and point out that their intolerance of anyone who doesn't support them makes THEM the bigots

It’d be funny if it weren’t so infuriating.

making a night meant for inclusion
So, we’re going to make our players make a political statement promoting something they do not agree with and something that has nothing to do with their f*cking job.
Further, we have no tolerance for their religious beliefs. But we’re all about inclusion.

The Athletic is simply figs for figs. Sports just gets in the way.

Neither bothers me. If the organization that pays these players wants to have Pride Night, then that’s their freedom. If the players are that sensitive that they need to make it about themselves, that’s their freedom too.

He got one thing right, at this point it is "us" versus "them".
