This situation becomes even more stupid when you realize that the trade war started escalating during the height of the energy crisis that we largely created unnecessarily and we depend heavily on Canada for crude imports. You couldn't draw up a more retarded playbook if you tried.

Lmao we don’t heavily rely on Canadian energy imports. In fact most of the energy imported goes from Alberta into the US and then right back into Canada

Admittedly, it’s a small sample size but the sample was very pro America and OK with Trump.

I would wager, based on their backgrounds, this is not an an outlier.

Trump's trade war is pushing Canada to China. If you're concerned about China, you should focus on that.

We start an unnecessary trade war with one of our closest allies and largest trading parners

You defined it as unnecessary. Why? We’ve been keeping our “allies” afloat by providing military protection, safe passage of shipping, medical advances and much higher medical costs, all so that this anti-American socialist-lite country can mooch off of us, have outrageous trade deficits, block growth (pipelines), resell Chinese knock-off products in violation of our trade agreements with other nations, etc. etc.

You called it a trade war, but wasn’t it really just a trade negotiation? Didn’t we have a pretty favorable win-win trade agreement in hand when Carney blew it all up for socialist/political reasons, not due to unfairness?

And about that “closest allies” comment. Their values are changing rapidly (along with Progressives here in the U.S., like you I guess). Their euthanasia program is out of control! They have open borders and are actively importing people from terroristic societies. Their green new deal programs are ridiculously overdone. They Do Not protect individual rights, and have trampled on freedoms of speech. Remember Bill C-16? How about the trucker protests and the seizures of bank accounts and cash apps? The imprisoning of truckers’ families?

This great ally of ours is acting quite abusive and is opposed to the ways of a free western society. Its way past dur that we stop propping them up and let them soak in their own stew.

Have you seen their GDP numbers? Carney is running that country into a ditch and its clear that he’s doing it on purpose.

This should be added to the 1000 reasons why it is time to dissolve NATO and tell Canada and Europe to fend for themselves

And if Alberta wants independence we should recognize them and enter a defense treaty with them

Trump's trade war
Again, are you talking hypotheticals, or are you actually working as a fictionalist.

Prior to "liberation day," Canada maintained explicit nonreciprocal protectionist measures, quotas, and non-tariff barriers targeting U.S. industries and goods, as they had for years and years. It had gone on so long Canada simply regarded it as the norm. When we called them on it, they were intransigent. When we retaliated, they upped the ante. That started the "trade war."

Not only was it the norm, it was a status quo when Trump himself negotiated the USMCA. Trump had all the opportunity in the world to address these specific issues in 2020 but decided against it.

You took the bait of a mild poke and dodged the point. You do that a lot.
