Ocasio-Cortez demands Pelosi, Schumer strip SCOTUS of jurisdiction on abortion

In a letter to the two senior Democratic lawmakers, the House Democrats pushed them to bar the court from hearing appeals related to abortion, contraception, same-sex marriage, and other social issues

Article III of the U.S. Constitution assigns Congress the power to regulate the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

If you wanted to add fuel to the destruction of the Republic, you couldn't do a better job than AOC.

An idea that's been bounced around for a while on a host of issues.

Of course, this wont solve her perceived "problem" because there will be splits in the circuits (SCOTUS is only opportunity for "national" ruling). Also, all prior precedents would arguably still be applicable (the Court did have jurisdiction when the ruling was made and it is still the supervisory court for all lower courts).

Another data point from the party who purports to defend our “democracy”.

It's hard to believe that dame was serving up mojitos and white russians for 3.00 an hour just a few short years back.

Our system was never intended to bridge a gap between such disparate world views and the founding fathers said as much.

The system only works if all sides respect the basic principles and respect others right to have their own opinion even if you disagree. System is designed to make compromise and slow roll legislation to keep growth of govt in check.

95% of our problems would be fixed if we simply focused on states rights and everyone respected that Alabama has the right to ban abortion while New York can allow it unrestricted. Fedgov doesn’t need to be involved, but too many people think they need to use Fedgov to Ram their beliefs down everyone’s throat.
