Andy Serkis explains why he changed Orwell's iconic 'Animal Farm' ending for new movie

This was definitely more for the PT instead of the movie board. Typical Hollywood Dems, trying to rewrite "history" with cartoon remake of George Orwell's Animal Farm fighting against capitalism instead of communism. Still trying to indoctrinate the youth. Now instead of reading the actual book, kids will think Animal Farm will be about fighting capitalism.

Serkis approached the adaptation by asking himself what Orwell would write about if he wrote “Animal Farm” today. He didn’t want it to be a story about Stalinist Russia. Instead, he gravitated toward themes of capitalism, wealth and overconsumption. The billionaire antagonist, Pilkington (Glenn Close), drives what closely resembles a Cybertruck.
quote:
Backlash to the trailer included one particular sting: “Orwell is rolling in his grave.” But Serkis maintains the author's estate signed off on the adaptation when he secured the rights. He insists “Orwell would have wanted” controversy.
“He's sort of adored and abhorred by both left and right, and that's the other thing about our film. We're not having a go at any one administration or regime. It's about authoritarianism and our response to that and power corrupting,” Serkis says. “I welcomed it. I loved that debate because that's what it's all about, creating a debate. That's what I do in my job as an actor, storyteller, filmmaker. Any act of creating art for me is about saying to the audience or the viewer, ‘Think about this differently.’ And if you don't agree with me, that's not a problem, but think about it differently."
quote:
Serkis scrubs the story of its violence, at least in any graphic manner. Snowball (Cox), for example, is escorted off the farm rather than chased by hounds and torn to pieces like in the book. Boxer’s (Harrelson) horrific glue factory death is largely implied. It didn’t stop Serkis’ team from giving me a promotional bottle of craft glue with the horse’s face on it, though. I'm not sure how this bit of dark humor will go over with the kiddos.
quote:
“Animal Farm,” classically, is a story without a happy ending. But Serkis’ interpretation gives viewers closure. The film adds an entirely new third act: Lucky has a change of heart and apologizes, the animals take down Napoleon and the evil capitalistic Pilkington. Lucky tells the cautionary tale for a new generation.
quote:
“We live in a world where there seemingly is no hope at the moment. We keep making the same mistakes. There are oppressive regimes globally. There are bosses in companies that maltreat their workers globally. We're living in such a difficult time. All times are difficult for humanity, but we're living in, it seems, certainly a world without truth or the inability to really know what is true and what isn't true.
“So we wanted the next generation, the kids who we hopefully are going to be watching this film, to at least have the ability to question what they should do next time around. History will inevitably repeat itself.”

Pass.
I’ve already suffered capitalism as demonic in the remake of Point Break, as well as watching the gunfight at the OK Corral turned into a celebration of gayness in Tombstone.

So he's decided to lie to them so they will be completely clueless when a dictator hijacks their "revolution" and essentially enslaves everyone?
Seems like thats the worst outcome.

I for one always enjoy having multi-millionaire Hollywood celebrities lecturing me on the evils of capitalism.

I bet your average highly educated liberal has no idea that was written about them.

Orwell was no fan of capitalism. He just understood that communism was that much worse.

This is very much like the old sci fi short story by Phillip K Dick called War Games.
" The story concludes with the children, who are unfamiliar with Monopoly, "learning the naturalness of surrendering their holdings"; one says "It's the best educational toy you ever brought home, Dad!"
It's pretty chilling what's going on in our media and entertainment industries

I should have known Hollywood would ruin Animal Farm and make it woke.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees it.
Val Kilmer played the gayest version of Doc Holliday in cinema history. Such an over the top pretty boy. Yet so many think it’s just a cool portrayal.

"For the love of money is the root of all evil". That is a definitive statement, albeit incomplete, as the power of money applied to the common good can be a good thing. It is the owner of the money that determines the evil or good therein.
One could also say that envy, on the part of them who are irresponsibly slothful progressing to downright criminal, and who manipulate their fellow workers or societal mechanisms (Egalitarian Communism down to street theft) in ways to 'get ahead" are no less guilty than the unvirtuous Capitalist who do the same.
IMO, its BS to 'rewrite' a classic and powerful Book to reflect the 'Rewriter's' own ideological bias. That is cheap, close to propaganda and he can put apologetic lipstick on that pig, but it's still in the mud. Dude should have written his own book.
Albeit many will read the original version who likely would not have done so otherwise. Not that minds will be changed; I'm beginning to believe that the extremes of greedy Capitalism and Envious Collectivism are genetic and cultural from the git go. And are therein determined for the duration, but for extraordinary individuals.
Regardless, I'll go on record saying that unless the two extremes can be reconciled and synthesized into a functional societal, economic model, we will damn sure learn a painful lesson as to the imperative need to do so. Outside of brute force. IMO, that will be the impetus for ushering in the "Second Coming", of Truth, wherein "every knee shall bow". Can't wait to see what AI says about said 'reconciliation', when push comes to shove and everybody opens their ears, minds and hearts, as severe trauma looms.
Personally, given my Eschatological bias, I think Orwell's DEI version will inevitably rule the day. At least for 71/2 years. Herding cats ain't cake; it takes a lot more than just a pen and words or 'cancel culture'/"the Number of the Beast". Especially if such an enterprise is anti-Christian. It's a bridge too far and I don't think we can cut it. Minus help from the Good Lord.
We'll find out soon enough.

Presented to us by Hollywood rich elite, telling is how wrong Orwell was in his critique of communism.
You can't make this shite up.

Imagine being this much of an egotistical arse hole. Yes actually it’s ME who knows more about what Orwell actually meant to write about than Orwell himself.

Am pretty sure Orwell would write the exact same book if he were doing it today.

And wouldn't you know it, "what Orwell would write" just so happens to align perfectly with this a-hole's beliefs. WTF was Angel Studios thinking when they decided to purchase and distribute this excrement?
