Am I the only one who has no idea why they're trying to impeach Trump?

Democrats are very religious about their political ideology. Their religious fanaticism leads them to seek out "heretics" and "purge" the orthodoxy of those who do not subscribe to their religion.
If you watch and follow Democrats closely they speak and act as if the government is theirs to control and theirs to giveaway.
To Democrats, Donald Trump in office is like satan sitting at the head of the church to Christians.
This is why they are so overzealous and obsessed with removing him. Their desire to have absolute unquestioned power over the government is threatened by Trump, and they will do anything in their power (lie, cheat, steal, pay off people, pay off foreign governments, etc.) to gain that power back.
Government power is like heroin to democrats.
Just observe them long enough and you'll realize everything they say and do is about increasing their own power.
Theres not a single policy Democrats want that takes power from them, only increases their power.

My thought is that Dems know their voters are driven 100% by emotion, so they need to get them worked up as much as possible so they will turn out to vote.

It's all a show. If you went back 8 years and suggested impeaching Obama over anything similar it would be laughable. Same with any other president.
This is our political climate. It's frustrating, insane, and mind-boggling. Its all posturing and political theater to show they are "fighting for their people."

The Democratic Party was badly humiliated in the 2016 election by a living breathing cartoon character who talked smack and didn’t play by the rules. They promised to regroup but became increasingly alarmed as the midterms drew closer due to a booming economy and other factors.
In order to infuse some energy into their voter base they’ve made a great show of pretending some rather boiler plate international political maneuvers are somehow tantamount to high treason and impeachable offenses. Most rational people understand that this is just political theater designed to hurt the president’s re-election chances.
The Democratic leadership is in a tight spot though, because in order to bring the sizable socialist wing of their party back into the fold after the Bernie Sanders/DNC fiasco of the last election cycle they’ve had to promise them the moon. Now these radical elements, with leaders like The Squad, are demanding what they were promised. The problem is that the old school Dems never intended to actually impeach Trump or introduce a Green New Deal or abolish private health insurance because they fully realize that pushing any one of these three is political suicide and will likely hand power to the Republicans for a decade or more.
So now they’re in a delicate situation having to walk the proverbial tightrope between either losing the radical leftist faction or the more moderate left of center voters. What’s probably really pissing them off is that this shouldn’t be a difficult election. Trump’s approval ratings aren’t great. He hasn’t come through on his promise for a border wall yet, and despite some small successes there’s been no great manufacturing/blue collar renaissance.
The Dems have not been able to capitalize however, and to make matters worse they are forced to deal with a historically weak primary field. Every single viable candidate has a significant weakness. Bernie is an avowed socialist. Warren is unlikeable and refuses to back off a mandatory Medicare for all proposal despite its unpopularity among even Democrat voters who like their union-negotiated health plans. Biden is a walking gaffe machine. Harris just isn’t that bright and her record as a prosecutor will be held against her. The rest are a clown show not even worth mentioning.
So that’s why their pushing the impeachment talks/investigation/inquiry/whatever other ways they can think of to say the word impeachment without actually meaning anything.

He is a threat to everything they stand for: corruption, money, and power. He was never supposed to win. He is a mistake. Removing him from office, despite the will of the people and all relevant legal processes, is the correction.

It is a hail mary. They know they will not beat him at the ballot box so they drawing up this dog and pony show to try and drive turnout. I think this is going backfire spectacularly and the Democrats will be in shambles after this election.
