The DC political class is remarkably insular and leans heavily left. We've seen a recent example of this with the Sussmann trial (acquitted of lying to the FBI even though every piece of evidence proves he did indeed lie to the FBI, also someone on the jury was the parent of a child who plays sports with Sussmann).

What you're seeing here is a decision made by people in that political class. This is no different than those who made the decisions to use (and participated with) the FBI to investigate/intimidate parents across the country merely for speaking up against their local school boards for trying to push CRT/Restorative Justice/etc in their schools.
