I was very happy when energy prices dropped and the inflation rate was lower. I even defended Trump's tariffs on the basis that they could be advantageous for our economy long term potentially.

Inflation is a function of increasing the money supply without increasing the value backing it. Since there’s 24T in worldwide dollars and we print 2T per year, US inflation is 8% annually.
It’s math. Our media does a hideous job of explaining the difference between inflation and individual price increases. It’s not the only area they suck - we still don’t know why the Brown University killer shot upon a classroom, or who the guy in Denver was who tried to kill 231 passengers on a flight to LA.
