A California startup wants to put a space mirror in orbit that will beam sunlight back down to the Earth during night time.

For what necessary purpose?
We hear the environmentalists voice their concerns over bovine flatulence, what would thousands of mirrors orbiting around the earth, shining light down on the earth when it should be dark, what would that do to the circadian rhythms of wildlife in these affected areas?

They ran out of Global Warming sources ?

This would screw the ecosystem wherever it was done by hampering nocturnal creatures as well as human circadian rhythms. Along with that it would raise temperatures over the entire region as night usually allows for heat dissipation (due to the sun not being able to continually warm the area).
Some gains might come from it (primarily agricultural, I would think, due to longer growing "days"), but those gains would be meager compared to the scope severity of the negatives.

Global warming is a myth, but they got one thing right. Nature is gonna teach us what FAFO truly means one of these days.

Let's start by making daylight savings time permanent.

Icarus beams down. What movie and villain intent could he be curious about replicating

Val Kilmer did this in 1985 in the classic Real Genius.

Not quite… Chris Knight and Mitch made the laser. Ken was the one who made the tracking mirror. It wasn’t big enough to be a space mirror on its own. Still though, Professor Hathaway’s house filling with pop corn was cool.

I feel like a concentrated beam of sunlight from a mirror could cause intense heat or a fire
